Monster 1200 exhaust noise
Hi all,
I'm looking at a 1200s but I think the stock exhaust sounds a bit euro 4 - a bit weak. What's the best way to free up the twin growl? The termis are a bit pricey - can I put on a header like the one below instead? Or is the silencer the way to go? Thanks, Alex. http://www.performanceparts-ltd.com/...hausts/E-D12E1 |

The silencer is the main culprit which makes the bike sound weak.
There is more and more choice of silencer on the market . each one has a different noise. I've fitted a workes pipe to mine, its loud and fruity!

Ah, OK. Might just suck it up and go for the termis - they do look the best to be fair

I had Termis on my 821, lots of noise, looked good, but for my 1200R I have gone for an SP, at a third of the price, haven't fitted it yet, waiting for the first service, it come with a Euro certification making it road legal, you can however, remove a circlip, which allows the baffles to come out for racing
Cost savings allowed me to buy all the evotech stuff I wanted too for less than the price of a termi. |

I have a Remus Hypercone on my 1200S. Baffles in is a nice noise, but baffles out is effing gawjus!! No extra dyno work required as developed with the standard ECU. I'm really happy with it.

Interesting - lots of options then. I've tried listening to youtube but you can't tell properly. The Remus seems popular though which says something.

I have ridden with Grumpy, Stinger and IMOC with their different exhaust systems.
Not sure what IMOC has on, but it's much like the others. To be honest with you there's not a lot of difference in the note or volume. They are all quite fruity and rather loud. It's a bit like following three of the horsemen of the apocalypse, with me attempting manfully to keep up at the back on my old 900, into the wall of sound.... I think it would be down to the one you like the look of (and the price).

They stock cans make the bike sound asmatic compared with an open pipe. An after market can is also lighter and in my opinion easier to clean!

Well the thing is, you never have to worry about getting a wheely bin into the shot when you are photographing your bike...and there is always a handy place to stuff your old chip papers after a nice greasy nosh up by the coast....So not all bad...

I remember thinking that the double barrelled stock cans sounded great on mine. Then I went to Belgium with the UKMOC and they were all sporting various open items. I soon realised my bike sounded tinny by comparison and they had to go immediately!! I bought the Remus within a week after researching them all. The price put me off the Termi's and having to get it dyno set up. I bought a load of Evotech stuff too with the balance....
If I was the confessional type, the Termi's shave it for me for the top end aggressive notes, but I prefer the Remus at lower revs. A personal opinion. Perhaps iMOC will offer me a swap.... |

I notice that no one has mentioned cans from Spark the Italian company that does the prototypes for termi.
The quality is first class as is the fit and finis, I personally have fitted most makes of exhausts to the many models of Ducati and believe me the Spark products are the best. Don't shoot me I'm only telling it as it is... |
