S4 immobiliser removal

Hi,
every now and again I am starting to experience problems with the immobiliser, it doesn't happen that often but occasionally the immobiliser kicks in and refuses to allow the bike to start. If I turn ignition off and back on the bike will start as normal.
I have seen a few posts on google and here regarding removing the immobiliser, is it just a case of removing the ecu and sending away or is there a bit more involved.
Any info from someone who has done this or knows someone who could remove it from the ecu would be appreciated.
cheers,
Brendan.

You're the second S4 owner to post about immobiliser problems!

Check out the Avanti website and consider giving them a call.

Seems a known fault. Will have a look at the avanti site and take it from there.
Thanks for the info.

It sounds like sometimes it is not reading the key correctly. If you've another key you could use or maybe check the aerial connection and position are good. That text describing the LED flashes from Avanti's website may give some indication of the fault:-

Third sequence
This sequence indicates a system fault:
•if the system is OK, the LED stays off;
•the LED flashes once to indicate that the serial connection is missing (this is the direct connection - through the main wiring - between engine control unit and immobiliser control unit in the instrument panel);
•the LED flashes twice to indicate that the key in the switch, or the immobiliser antenna, or both, are faulty;
•the LED flashes three times to indicate that the system does not recognize the key you have inserted;
•the LED flashes four times to indicate that the engine control unit has been programmed, but the immobiliser is blank.

In either case, the engine will not start.

I'm the other person with the S4 immobiliser issue, only a few miles away from you Brendan, maybe it's something in the air!

I emailed Avanti over the weekend, as yet I've had no response, I'll call them later today.

Brendan - I removed and checked the antenna recently, easy job, happy to meet up if you want to compare notes

Thanks for the offer Alan, I will have a look over the weekend and see if that is the problem. Hopefully something as simple as a loose connection or similar.
Cheers for all the help👍😀

No probs. The antenna is under the ignition key shroud. Raise the tank to get easier access to the retaining nuts. If you remove the headlight it also allows easier access to the connecting cables.
