I can understand your reasoning, my mountain bike’s bars are 780mm wide too but I think as mine on the Monster are lower if they were much wider too it might lose the comfort level I have.

Remember you will either have to drill the new bars to accept the location lugs on the switches or file them off to allow you to rotate the switches into your preferred position.

I was looking at the LSL Fat Bars when I fitted individual risers to my Evo - they look to be really nice quality. If you do decide to drill the bars, LSL do a drilling rig for about £25, which should make the task easier.

Right so after Renthal Road wides could be delivered I ordered LS Street bars....next day they arrived.

As hoped a tad wider, a lot less sweep, Comparable rise (maybe 5-10mm less depending how you orientate)

(No idea if these photos will work but here goes)

I was trying the to work out how they would look vs standard so here you go

And fitted.....3 out of 4 holes I drilled were OK..... lef had switch set was quite a way out and position critical to not clash with Clutch as I wanted to run the mirrors/levels at even spreads unlike before....so that lug got 'gone'!

So....back pack prepped......off to do some essential shopping tomorrow.....3 mile round trip will have to suffice as a test ride for now!

The de-lugged switchgear can be a bit loose and move a bit sometimes. I found that some black electrical tape wrapped once or twice around the bar should sort it.

Its an old chestnut and there are those who disagree but I'm going to repeat it anyway on a take it or leave it basis .......
If you grind off the locating pins and rely on tightening up the clamping grip by wrapping the bars with tape you impose a wedging action on the switchgear halves when they are tightened up and, because the castings are a zinc rich aluminium die casting alloy which is inherently brittle, and because the castings themselves are pretty thin, you risk cracking them.
Obviously I don't have personal experience of this because I don't grind my pins off but I've bought secondhand switchgear that has been damaged in this way.
Then again there are those who claim its ok to do and seem to get away with it.
I guess it depends on how much tape you use.
Anyway there it is, for what its worth.

I do accept though .... its a right royal pain to get the holes drilled in exactly the right spot first time around, so I can see the temptation to de-pin.

The risk with the plastic ones is with damage by over-tightening them to try and get them tight enough! Which is why I think the tape helps!

Good tips, it’s only the left for indicators I de lugged. Seemed ok grip well and I nipped up no tighter than was one. I ruffed up the last of the lug and left it .5mm proud to grip the bar. A bit of grip glue got to my controls so I don’t think it will shift.....not sure if there should be but wasn’t glue on the grip before and it did twist !

I remember using the tape trick on my bandit years ago.....any sign of slip and I will be on it again.
