..Big thanks to Antony (BlahBlah) for taking the time out this evening to ride over so I could have a closer look at the S2R frame. A lot of questions answered, which means I'm now able to continue with jigs & parts for new rocker arm mounts.....invaluable support, route forward is so much clearer now...thanks for your help Antony.

I'm now considering keeping the 330mm Ohlins unit and positioning the rocker mounts higher to suit - not sure where this will place the pivot mounts as yet, but I believe they will be above the frame tubes rather than just in the crook of existing tube interface. Will be spending more time on this early next week looking at geometry etc.

...think I may have a problem with my hub. The eccentric adjustment flange is razor thin and fractured in places. Comparing with BlahBlah's hub last night, his is appx. 6mm thick ?

I've read this evening that the sprocket cush drives are prone to fail, allowing the sprocket carrier to contact the hub and grind it away ??

Can anybody verify this ? Is this why my hub flange is wafer thin ??

EDIT

Bugger - just found this ...

I had this happen on my 916. The flange was really thin but could still adjust the chain however in the end I bought a new hub and bearings as it was bugging me.

You can get aftermarket sprocket carriers that prevent the cush drives backing out or even modify (drill, tap and fit grubscrews) the original to prevent it happening again.

...wonder if it could be salvaged by having a new flange machined and screwed to the hub. The flange only serves for laterally alignment of hub in swingarm, plus to facilitate use of C-Spanner for chain adjustment. I could have the remaining wafer thin flange removed by facing off and maybe 3x small tapped holes, with countersunk screws in the new flange... ?

Update: local machine shop advise they can do this for £160 inc.

....have spoken with Chris Taylor, very informative & confidence inspiring, he feels shortening this DU8320 (DU0440) Ohlins is feasible, so I've agreed to ship it up for a first hand appraisal

Many thanks Dukedesmo !

I paid less than half that for a used but as new hub on ebay, also came with the bearings etc. already fitted.

Not sure if 848 hub is the same but here's one for £85 that looks good; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ducati-848...0AAOSwdV1XONb-

...I think that hub is a smaller diameter, but I'll let you know ...

UPDATE

Seller advises this 848 Hub has a 111mm diameter, but I honestly thought it would be smaller ?? I must assume he has measured the clamping diameter and not the OD of the notched flange ?

S*R hub is 106mm clamping diameter....

UPDATE

Seller in Holland advises 748 Hub is 98mm Clamping Diameter ..

UPDATE

Dutch Seller shown me a nifty trick on Stein-Dinse website which cross-references P/N to all bikes fitted with same part, so the S4R hub also fitted to
Ducati Hypermotard 1100 `09
Ducati Monster S2R 1000 `06
Ducati Monster S4RS `07
Ducati Multistrada 1000 DS.

Hoping now the seller who sent me the U/S one will do the honourable and part-refund, allowing me to pick up another one soon.....

UPDATE

Seller did the honourable, so another VERY GOOD LOW MILEAGE Hub purchased, which I hope will be as description & photo....

Very Slow progress this last week - calculations/drawings for Jig to re-positioning of Rocker Mounts complete - now need to consider some custom mounts as the M900Sie items utilise a 10mm rocker shaft - not really enough meat on them if I take them out to 12mm to suit the S4R Rocker shaft so probably wise to machine new.

DU8320 Ohlins 330mm Shock away for shortening to 305mm to suit S4R geometry....and I've jumped the gun a little, having some Silencers made to suit concept.

This should start coming together later next week ...

...bit more progress

Bike now completely stripped down whilst I work on locating the S4R rocker in the M900S frame.

Jigs place the new rocker axis right in the crutch of a tube junction, so additional thought (& work) required - some notching to do here for additional short tube sections that will allow the rocker shaft to be inserted/removed etc.....

.... another batch of progress today.

Welding jigs now doubling up as drill guide so I can notch out the M900 tube inste4rsection, ready to take the L/H Rocker Boss for the S4R Rocker Arm.

Pilot hole right the way through first, followed up by holesaw - apprehensive afternoon, especially after a 3 week build up to actually making the cut. All went well, no issues.

Jigs re-assembled in welding locations and the S4R rocker assembly lines up perfectly.

Now have to work on the L/H boss, followed by some additional supporting tubes and webs.
