Nitro batteries

I'll be looking to buy a new gel battery for my M900ie next spring, while checking out prices I came across Nitro batteries. Their battery for my bike is considerably cheaper than other gel batteries. Has anyone had any experience with these batteries? Are they worth buying?

I have used a nitro battery before and I would say they are cheap for a reason.

Back in the day I used to buy a new Yausa nearly every year. Vibes, cold winters and poor charging systems on British irons dun em in.

I bought a Motobatt for the Monster 7 years ago and it's still on there, never been on a charger. That's less than a tenner a year and still going strong.... You decide if it's a cheap battery?

I've got a Yausa you can have if you can pick it up from Norfolk.

Not tried a Nitro, but am equally impressed as Mr G with the Motobatt in my M900.

Have had 2 Motobatts now in the last 5 years. the first one didn't last that long but the 2nd one seems to be holding up much better. I think any gel battery has a finite life and needs recharging after so long and every so often, so it depends on how old it is and how long its been sitting around on a shelf uncharged when you buy it.

Had a Motobatt for five years - bit of a 'tight fit' but - never had a problem - yet.

Okay then, that'll be no Nitro battery for me. Have been considering a Mottobatt or possibly a JMT. I've had a couple of JMT batteries on other bikes before and found them to be good.

New Motobatt fitted with a bit of 'modification' i bought it from M&P Direct & you get an extra years warranty with it when you register so thats two years which is handy.

What did you have to modify? IIRC mine just went straight in, no messing.

It was just that the I had to cut a small piece of the rubber battery holder where the previous battery had a cut out & fitted perfectly into the holder but the motobatt didn't ..actual dimensions were the same for both ..does that make sense ?

Maybe the battery fits differently on the S2? On my S4 it is laid down on it's side over the rear cylinder. But yea, the battery should be the same size so it should fit ok but I'm not sure what the cut out bit you mention is. The Motobatt was the same shape and size and the Yuasa I took out.

the old battery was a YT12B-BS which has a cut out in the middle between the two terminals the motobatt is a MBT12B4 which has not if you google an picture of each you'll see .

I see what you mean. The Motobatt seems odd as most other generic brands have the same cut out bit. I will have to check mine, if only to see why I didn't notice that before.
