I've ridden the 1100evo, 821 and 1200 Monsters and ended up with an 1100evo. It sort of combines the old school air-cooled feel with modern aids such as ABS and TC. It's also super-light and relatively simple. However it does need a 14tooth front sprocket and remap to be good around town. Nothing wrong at all with the watercooled bikes but they are revvier and slightly heavier. As everyone has said, there's no bad bikes here, just personal preference.

Ok I was offered a brand new 821 stripe for 9k today, as it worked out more affordable on finance than a second hand bike. Is this a good deal or just the norm? I know you loose money, but I really liked the look of the water cooled and the 821 is more affordable than the 1200.

Too many unknowns to say. What type of finance, what's the rate, over how long etc etc etc. a dealer will happily discount a bike to the bone if he is gonna get it back in interest.

My sums make the cost of credit £392 total. If you want one of the lease/balloon deals that sounds like a good one. Of course you'd need to find or finance the balloon though.

Just my two penn'orth .....
Cost of finance plus depreciation over say, 18mths plus servicing, could amount to £3k.
Instead you could buy an older 900 or 1000 with that money.
Furthermore, that bike will hold its value, so most of that will come back when (if) you sell it on and buy an 821 (particularly if you service it yourself).
....by which time there will be cheaper used 821s anyway.

insert multiple smileys here.

15W40 semi-synth should be absolutely fine all year round, you'd need to be at the extreme end of performance tuning before you need to start using 20W60 or similar. Make sure you use a motorcycle specific oil, car oils will likely cause clutch slip if used with a wet clutch.
