Hi Dennis, just picking up on your too short comment... I always fancied a 90-95 900SS but when I sat on a 750SS it was seriously uncomfortable, with both a lack of legroom and wierd handlebar position too. I'm over 6' tall, and actually don't find the M900 fits me at all well either, so rarely ride it. I'm even wondering about trying an ST2. Are we both just the wrong kinda shape for Ducatis?!

The SS is a fair bit higher than the monster so should suit taller riders better.

Yes the seat is higher, but so are the footrests, while the bars are a lot lower and seem further back. I thought it would suit an orang-utang really well.

That's a bit like a classic Alfa: long stretch to the steering wheel, but no leg room.

And very much like a Moto Guzzi Lemans, ideal for an ape.

I think a lot of Italian cars & bikes were built that way back in the day...

There's just no getting away from the fact that Monsters are small , he SS is bigger and more eesily adapted to suit a bigger rider, both bars and footrests can be changed easily on the SS whereas on the monster its more difficult. Drop bar conversion can be done for a monster but its a pita to do.

Nice blinged out yellow 900 and a tidy looking blue/white S4R for sale on here, both look good bikes.

I used to ride a Monster and with a few tweaks lowered it to a manageable position. The 750ss however is much higher. They are also going for silly money now. This month's Classic Bike has an advert for a bike the same age as mine for £6K! That issue also has some good articles on Ducatis

The smaller size of the Monster is very attractive to me. I am not tall at 1.65 but that is not the main reason. I've ridden big Harleys and owned a Honda NX650 which I rode daily. I genuinely like the proportions of the bike, and its relative compactness. I can't see why so many bikes appear to be made in a supersized way and I would never buy one. I rode a Tuono a month ago. Great power & well finished bike no doubt. But they should have named it the Carthorse. Oh well we are all different!

To an owner bikes can be worth fortunes. I've spent one on mine and theres loads of things I want to do yet! Bikes are actually worth what people will pay. There was what looked like a nice 900ie on ebay at the weekend. 17K? Full MOT. Bidding reached £1950 (it didn't sell due to reserve). Now I may be biased but I think that bike must be worth more than that... Asking price is very different from selling price.

Classic bike, is that the one with Mike the Bike on the cover? I saw it but I bought Practical Sports Bikes to read Andy's Monster resto. article but I wanted that one too. Maybe get one next week when I've read PSB.

I quite agree, a bike is only worth what someone will pay for it.

Values seems all over the place for 900SSs, at least Monsters are more consistent in that respect. I thought SSs seemed cheap until I sat on one & realised it wasn't for me, maybe lots of other people find that.

Talking of riding position (again) , has anyone tried an ST2?
