900SS Project wanted
As I know a few of you guys have a few old bikes around I thought I'd put this on here as well as the more general Ducati Forum
My son and I are looking for a ‘restoration/modification ready’ Carburated 900SS as our next project. We have a lightly modified Superlight/Endurance racer look in mind. We’ve bid on a few on Ebay, but just do not have the funds to secure what have all been complete, basically good to go bikes. Engine condition is completely immaterial as we’re finishing off the build of a bitsa 900/962 engine at the moment. Ideally it would be a complete bike with a blown or otherwise damaged engine, but anything incomplete at the right price would be considered, as would a pile of parts to give us a really good start. We have a strict top budget for the purchase of £1500, but I see that as a complete bike, maybe a little cosmetically challenged with a damaged non running engine, or a better bike cosmetically with an engine too badly damaged to repair. A 600 or 750 that we could bring up to spec with 900 parts could be an option. We really want to use the engine we’re building instead of being tempted to stick it in my 900 Monster. So, what’s everybody got lurking under an sheet in the back of their garage that they've not touched in years? Thanks Nasher.

It's not at all what we want unfortunately, and at the moment it's cheap but has a few days to go yet.
Thanks for looking anyway. Nasher.

I like the fact he's stating the service history as having had the belts changed, as if it makes any difference...

It's got a cat...
Nasher, you often see a cheapish 600SS in the adverts. Mostly quite tidy too. If you are going to hoik the engine out, it makes no difference and the sale of the engine and body parts will recoup something.

2 cats! There's very little in the way of SS's sub 2k even 600's around on fleabay atm but I'll keep an eye out for one. The 600 monsters are that bit cheaper and imho the monster chassis is much better than the SS ever was so would be a better starting point for a cafe racer.
Just a thought but an Imola style S2R would be cool and could be given a MHR evo look or Red Max style real easy. I've seen plenty (so many) SS cafe racers and most bar one or two look pretty crap (lines all wrong) imho and people want >5k for one for some reason. I think for 1.5k you've got to be flexible and keep your options open and be creative. I saw a nice ST4S cafe racer that looked pretty recently, it was a private sale and Moto Strada bought it adding 1k to the price.

Thanks guys I appreciate your help.
It's got to be a Carburated SS I'm afraid. I wanted one when they were new and still love the look of them. I'm not prepared to build anything that I'd call a Café racer, I don't have a beard, a check shirt, or pointy shoes. Nasher.

Dookbob, thanks, but my request was 2.5yrs ago!
I'm sorry to say the bike I eventually picked up is still on my bench about 3/4 finished. Nasher.
