That looks quite mean and moody, a lot better than I was expecting!

Cool

Dropped the Monster off at MADASL ready for today's strip down.

And so it starts:

Still not 100% what I'm going to do (apart from the ST2 engine). Cheers to Mark at http://www.madasl.co.uk/ for all the help.

No more progress on the Monster, but the ST2 is now fully stripped down so the engine prep can start.

Cool

All I am looking out for now is the following to pimp it out:

1100 Crank
1000DS Pistons/crank

I you know of any of the above, that would be great.

Cool

I also got hold of a set of Triumph clip-ons they just need to be milled out to 50mm to fit I think, even doing that is a lot cheaper than any Ducati marked bits.

What is the benefit? The major restriction on old 900 are the heads not crank/pistons.

Cool

They are for the ST2 engine mate, I think it takes it from 944 to 992 approx.

Do you need to remove the sprockets the belts run on in the heads to be able to remove the black rubber bits the belt covers screw onto? My covers and the rubber bits need replacing as does the paint all over... so I guess I'd need that special tool to remove the sprockets? Can you turn the engine using that tool with the belts on to TDC if the plugs are out?

Cool

The cam wheels do need to be removed to get the plastic bit off.

You should be able to turn the engine over, but I have not tried it.

If you are going to do I would wait until you belts need doing.

I'm taking the heads and barrels off to repaint the block in the frame, do the valve guide oil seals, barrel/base oil seals and the belts. The engine hasn't turned in 5 years.... I want to put it to TDC first. I suppose I could use the chain sprocket to turn it, but to paint properly, the plastics have to some off and the horizontal one could do with replacing anyway. Right, I'll order the tool.

Cool

If you want the horizontal one and the ST2 one fits you can have it. Again I am running mine totally without.

The rest ...... it just fell apart:

A early 748 flywheel works well on a st2 engine!

Cool

Cheers 888.

It will work out cheaper getting all the bits I have (flywheel, primary gears etc) milled and drilled to make them lighter, then a balanced crank set up.

I just need the 1000ds pistons or 944 hi-comps to finish the top end.
