Best pattern tool for head nuts?

Hi guys,

Where's the best place to get pattern tools for torquing up the head nuts for a '95 M900 without paying Ducati prices? I've seen old and new shaped tools on ebay as well as various spanner types with some looking more professional than others.

I would make one with a spanner and a socket but don't have a welder.

Any recommendations for where to buy from would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Stu.

Would a crows foot wrench be suitable with an extension bar to the torque wrench?

Thanks for the link. I'm happy paying the going rate for the tools but guessed you guys would have a better idea where to look and what to look for so I'm not having my eyes ripped out on price and not getting something that isn't really suitable.

Cheers bud.

If you go the crows foot route, which is my preferred type, just remember to keep the torque wrench at 90deg to the crows foot or you'll be over-tightening them.

I ended up using a longer one like this last time as it gives you more room to move with the Torque wrench.

I did work out the force diagram once and can confirm the 90deg bit works for whatever length Crows foot you use.

Top tip, thank you!!

Just to clear it up for myself and anyone else after the same info, do you mean the pattern crows foot spanner in Dukedesmos post or the crows foot socket pictured in my post above?

I'd always understood a crows foot spanner to look like the US Pro one in your second post, and the one in my ebay link to be really pushing the boundries of what could be considered one.

I wouldn't call the one in Dukedesmo's ebay link a Crows foot, but that's probably just me, I'd always bow to his knowledge.

Cool, thank you. The only reason I considered Dukedesmo's was one is because it was in the title on the ebay listing.

Otherwise I would have thought the same as yourself.

I've used (and got) various modified ring spanner (15mm spanner with 1/2 drive welded on), straight type - such as; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-Cy...5.c10#rpdCntId and one similar to the first link.

All work fine (need to keep at 90 degrees for the spanner types) but the bigger, more complex tool is much easier to use and you get better access around the belt drive areas on the Monster head.

The 2 for 1 deal is a good price for 2 (I think I paid more than that for 1?) but you should be able to source just the one you need without paying Ducati prices.
