External fuel filter mod + Ducati racing M900 YT

I didnt want to post this too early as we were not too sure it would work out!

moving the fuel filter OUTSIDE of the fuel tank worked well on both my 900SS and St4s, where there is quite some room for mounting the filter but the Monster proved awkward due to the rear suspension rocker being in the way of my intended location.

My brothers M900ie 2000YM had faulty fuel pump operation that turned out to be wiring failure of the power feed via the fuel sender assembly.

Might be genuine, fitted a treat and seems good quality but the sensor stem is a good 30mm SHORTER than the original so time will tell if the fuel reserve is reduced.

I'd forgot how much of a pig getting the fuel filter and pump out a single entry way tank is. (ST's have a bottom entry flange

with the parts mounted vertically).

SO I fitted some NBR/NBR hose in place of the filter and change the submerged hose too - I had some already but here is a great source for shorter lengths:

Another piece of std HP hose needs to go from the tank delivery (M) to the filter inlet.

The place we decided upon was with the filter just inside the bottom frame rails.
I'd even re-purposed an old lidded can to hold the filter but that added too much to the width of the filter once in place.

I then wrapped the fuel clamps and filter body in heavy duty black tape to try and hide it all from 'prying eyes' - time will tell.

This does add an extra element of 'risk' to the fuel system that you take on yourself but, I think its justified by owner awareness (not me lol) and ease of next service change.

The guy below shows a similar install but I think its an additional fine filter and the main filter still lives in the tank:
