Goodwood FoS

Exciting news for the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year is that Wayne Rainy will be riding up the famous Hill on his 1992 Championship winning Yamaha YZR500.

Even better news is that, I have spoken to the Goodwood team and they inform me that he will be riding twice on the Thursday and once each on the Saturday and Sunday so there are plenty of opportunities to see him back on a bike- the last time I saw him was the 1989 Donington British Grand Prix so I for one cannot wait.

If you've never been to a Goodwood event before they're not the cheapest day out (it IS a 'proper' full day though) but they really know how to put on a show!

Sounds interesting.
I'm wondering how the bike will be adapted so Rainey can control/ balance on the move.
The Festival of Speed is a petrol heads heaven. The exotica on display is mind blowing. Add in some of the top bike racers going up the hill climb on rare machinery, the festivals a great day out. Worth every penny.

According to the press release, Yamaha Motor Co have reconfigured the thirty year old machine so Wayne can ride it using handlebar controls only.

I guess with modern electrickery and the factory’s know how it wouldn’t be too difficult for them to fit some kind of push button quick-shifter system to enable him to ride it and for people to ‘catch him’ at the end of the run to assist him.

I think it will be a really moving experience to see him ride again- for one rider to never really have been ‘a crasher’ though out his career to have had it ended so cruelly by what was considered in the 500 era to have been a not overly huge off was very sad.

Exciting update on this is the announcement that joining Wayne, on what will I am sure be an emotional ride up the hill will be Kevin Schwantz, Mick Doohan and Kenny Roberts- expect blue smoke, tears and a cacophony of four cylinder (or three possibly in the case of the Honda) two strokes echoing off straw bales and Flint walls!

I cannot wait!!!
