Have you switched the fuel line (under the tank) back on - I made that mistake about 7 years ago!
Is fuel getting to the fuel pump?
Are the plugs getting damp with fuel?
Have you got sparks?
If yes to all of these, then it might be like mine after the last rebuild - a bit of cold start got it going.
You know if you put too much in as the exhaust headers will start glowing RED!

but i take it i use full choke with no throttle to start from cold ?

Yes to the above, don't use a jumps start pack or you may fry the modules in the process..

I know the feelings. What are the symptoms of non starting? DrD list is the very basic (and accurate) you should look at. Fuel and spark to start with..

can sombody tell me what the standard gearing is on the m900 and how many teeth to go up on the back for a bit more ooomph ?

The standard sprocket sizes for the 2v 900 Monster are 15/39 (the 900SS is 15/37 due to different primary ratios).

On my '97 900 I went up two teeth on the rear which makes sixth gear actually usable below 90mph and more importantly prevents the 'in between gears' feeling when riding around town and in slow traffic.

As said many times on here, Ducati's tend to be massively over geared (as are most bikes) to allow them to pass the Euro drive by noise emission tests, which I presume has got tighter over the years but as the bike's performance has increased is perhaps not so noticeable.

I've run the lower gearing for years now but I am pretty sure I remember actually getting better fuel economy from the bike after I changed it, even with enthusiastic use of the added torque effect of lower gearing. All down to the fact that fifth and sixth gears become more usable when cruising.

I'm also running 15/41 (M750) gearing - much better than stock ratio on 900. Got a spare 41T rear sprocket here if you fancy giving it a try, but yould need and extra few links on the chain if you do. Stock length chain would be too short.

i bought a renthal rear off fleabay but didnt think id need more chain links !

As for a longer chain- I am sure I didn't order a longer one when I replaced mine but I can look out the receipt if you want me to double check?
