Yep, do it, a long weekend in Florence should be enough. I managed to persuade Mrs Sir to go to Bologna for a day when we went and she said she enjoyed the factory tour more than the museum. You need to allow a whole day since it takes a couple of hours on train there and back but well worth it. Plus you have the beauty of Florence to enjoy as well.
