Staffords 888 superbike broke down in France just after we left our overnight at Troyes, and he had to get a pillion with Skank to Dijon. Skanks luggage got thrown on top of mine on the trike. 10 days solo across Belgium, Germany & France last year, US20 on tank plus Ortlieb 35litre dry bag. Clean clothes every day, LUXURY!

Excellent stuff, I have a question for you about doing such a great tour with a pillion. What kind of seat did you have fitted that would be suitable for your pillion ?

It WAS a stock seat (passenger is as hard as nails!) Get another club member to give you a lift somewhere if you've never been pilion on a Monster, it'll horify you. I have since got my hands on a DP gel seat which I use for touring now.

I have ridden pillion on a mate's Monster some years ago, we were headed to a small village near Dundee to pick up my bike, an excellent spanner man who lives there had been working on my bike. The run was around 13miles and it was torture.

I did a week's touring around yorkshire with female pillion a couple of years back. Best part of 1000 miles, if memory serves.
I had the std seat, and got no complaints from the passenger, but subsequent pillion passengers have complained loudly after very short runs, and have declined to repeat the experience.
In light of this, and the comments on this thread, it seems that a certain Hilary Browne deserves my congratulations.

I think that one of the problems might be the totally wrong position of the pillion grab handles (if indeed that's what they are).
Over the last couple of years I've been trying to perfect a design for a quickly detachable luggage rack for monsters, which also provides better positioned grab handles and a pillion bum stop.
Thus far though, my various development tweeks have failed to entirely sort out the design, so it remains on the drawing board for now.
