One of my mates is considering a ktm 1290 superduke. He’s terrified of the reliability and I’m even terrified for him.

I had this issue some years ago with a Moto Guzzi main agent. They are no longer in business and I wonder why?

As the PO of a KTM 690 Duke do be aware of the build quality / reliability issues-mine had a corroded radiator ( 3 years old but fixed under warranty by supplying main dealer) and fuel starvation caused allegedly by a breaking up fuel filter-fixed under warranty as well.

KTM are renowned for poor build quality even by someone used to Ducati standards. Probably best to get a UJM 600 for a first big bike, then get a Ducati Hypermotard if that's the style of bike you want.

I raced 250 and 300 EXC's, but back then they were made by KTM.
India doesn't quite give you the vibe of precision engineered.

She does not like heavy bikes at all needs to be A2 friendly and less than £3000 she likes Ninja 300/400/ KTM 390 ,, dislikes Mt07 she passed her test on one

in the end its her choice I was brought up on old Blitish bikes so a KTM cant be worse than those old self destructing bangers all vibrator vibes and oil leaking like a tarts knickers Lord of darkness electrics , ,,

Pro twins tried it with me looking at the 1100s. Told them I had a great deal with Chichester and didn't believe me. They wanted full on the road price plus extra money also pay for test ride on a 696 that isn't the same.

There used to be the On the Road (OTR) price, which was for the Number Plate and Road Tax and maybe a tank of fuel.

Austrian built bikes are much better than India built bikes. Had a 390, miserable piece of sh*t in terms of build quality, got a 690 Duke now, built in Austria, much better aside from they seem to use about a million different bolt sizes….
