yes, they are made out of the original covers, cut with som polycarbonate sheet let in. the covers were then hydro dipped at home with some film.....

The home hydro dipping kits are about £50 iirc

Having had a look, I can get some film and activator for about £10, the rest of stuff in the kits seems to be generic bits (gloves, primer and the like) that I've got most of that in the garage already.

yes, the film and activator is cheap! I buy from Hydromonkeys...

I just use silver rattle can under the film... tried some gold a few months ago, it looked fantastic under the carbon film.

good tip is if you make a mistake, you can use panel wipe (sold by car paint suppliers - its cheap )to remove the film without affecting the base coat.

you can use single pack acrylic rattle can lacquer over the top, but to make it really durable, 2k is FAR better. (you can get that in rattle cans now too!)

Ikea boxes work well as a tank

Don't start me on kitchens... I did fit it 10 years ago, and to my eyes its still good... but there are rumblings

been painting the tank and seat today... one of the tips I picked up many years ago is that when spraying small items, use a torch in your other hand and shine it from below... you can see where you are wetting out the paint... I love the way 2K lacquer glosses from the gun these days!

started work on the seat base. I have cut it to shape and added the Rivinuts to hold it on. I have used aluminum ones as these are much easier to pull in with a nut and bolt if you don’t have the special tool to draw them in…

Also a picture of how its looking... I know this will finish well before Spring next years so I have bought another project to see me through the dark months of winter... watch this space!
