Tank Respray

Hey

I am going to respray the tank , truck pulled out infront of me and caused a low side , dent in the tank

Every bodyshop I talk to is terrified as the Decals are lacquered over

Was thinking of painting and Lacquering , decals on top versus lacquered over

Any issues doing this? Aesthetically ? Longevity ?

Paint then lacquer, then apply the decals, then more lacquer.

Putting the decals on lacquer protects the base coat if you make an arse of it first time and need to remove the decals and have another go.

Apply first coats over decals with light "misting" coats then build the coats wet on wet.

Firstly, sorry to hear about your "off" - hope you're ok.

The other alternative is to have the logos painted on. When I had my "S4RS-ish" paint job, I wanted the 1100 Evo logo on the tail piece but there were no OE decals in the right colour. Steve at Image Design Custom said it wasn't a problem as they could laser-cut a suitable mask and paint it on - which is what he did (including the flag)...

Many of the larger paintshops should have the facility to do this.

If you have a laser printer (or access to one) and a decent graphics suite, you can make your own decals.. Just search for waterslide decal paper, A4 is very commonly used. It comes clear or white. Not many printers will print White, so White paper has it's uses.

You need the laser printer as an inkjet printer will not have waterproof ink.
