Well does the bike run? I may have a spare that i replaced when it started to play up. Never investigated the fault just replaced it. It could have been a dodgy connection or shimming.

You should get an error light if the crank sensor is faulty or not connected.

Non standard dash? Or non standard ECU? if its just the dash then i would advise you get the diag software and leto read the ECU to check for errors or a dealer can do this for you but the leads are cheaper than buying a new crank sensor when you don't know if that its faulty. It coumd be any number of things. There's plenty of info on here regarding ducati diag software that you can download.

You didnt say if you just have a non standard dash and what it is. The fact that its firing on one at least suggests the crank sensor is working sometimes otherwise it wouldnt fire at all. Does your dash take rpm signal from crank sensor or ignition? Maybe one of the coil sticks has failed. You see where im going with this? Have you tried swapping them over see if it fires on the other cylinder? I still think you're clutching at straws unless you interrogate the ECU.

A failed coil stick would causee the bike to run on one but won't give you an error though so there is something else going on could be the crank sensor not sensing the timing marks correctly. I've just looked in the workshop manual and all it says is this:
PICK-UP The pick-up used is the inductive type. The engine pick-up is facing the timing gear and can read the 46 teeth and the slot of 2 teeth. The signals coming from the pick-up are used by the control unit to acquire the engine RPM and as a timing reference. Note To check these components, use the “MATHESIS” tester. I though there was some shimming which you could adjust the position of the sensor with but it does not mention it. Have you tried removing the sensor and cleaning it and the connector plug?

No mate bikes at a friends so my time with it is limited in think the shin you are referring to can be removed ask a Ducati dealership £98 for a new sensor so will try a few things that you have suggested before I bite the bullet
