Scitsu Tacho

Before I put yet more things on eBay I thought I'd pop this here for a couple of days in case anyone is interested.

My brand new Scitsu Tacho which I bought in a bit of a rush (direct from Scitsu) to replace my original which at the time I thought was kaput as they told me it was beyond economical repair- since then I have had it apart and it turned out all it needed was a new charging socket and battery.

So as I prefer the graduations on my original (I find it easier to see when the needle is between eight and ten thousand RPM as it sweeps into my eye line on a vibrating buzzy single cylinder motor), this one is for sale.

Scitsu tachos are pretty much the choice for many race bikes but there is no real reason why they can't be used on a road bike too and with a little imagination could look pretty cool on a special with a hidden (to keep things legal) speedo- the only downside is they are not backlit for use at night of course.

For those not familiar with how these work- they are self powered by an internal rechargeable battery which when fully charged will give around eight hours of use- then simply charged up again using the supplied leads from a 12v battery. When not in use there is a 'dummy plug' which turns off the tacho.

They take a signal from the HT lead through a single wire which is simply cable tied to it, so apart from that single wire there is nothing else to physically connect up. Depending upon how the chosen bike makes it's spark the tacho is calibrated accordingly and this one is their 'Red' colour code for one coil triggered from one pickup on the crankshaft- making the ignition fire once for every revolution. So a four stroke single (like my race bike) or a twin using a 'wasted spark' ignition (like a Monster!!).

It comes with the charging leads, dummy plug, mounting bracket and anti-vibration rubbers, along with all the original paperwork and instructions and it's yours for £110 posted.

Up for grabs:

Good Tachos these, I've used them on a YPVS and an old Z1000.

I've gone down a different route with my 900SS project already, otherwise I'd have snapped it up at that price.
