May 2009 Monster of the Month

From Big Red Duke...

This is my 2004 S4R. I bought it when it was 11 months old and pretty much in mint condition. I first rode a Ducati V twin over 25 years ago (a blue & silver bevel 900ss) and it left a lasting impression on me and I knew I would get one eventually. I decided on a Monster mainly because of the riding position and it’s looks. I love the characteristics of the V twin engine and the ‘grunt’ factor. Modifications include a sprinkling of carbon fibre, open clutch and cored standard exhausts. When I bought it I had no intentions of modifying it until I joined UKMOC, then the spending began.

I don’t consider myself as a ‘show-off’, but I do get a great deal of satisfaction from the attention my bike gets wherever I park it. People just seem drawn to Italian bikes, especially Ducati’s and like to ask questions. I have always liked Ducati’s even in the early days when I couldn’t afford one, mainly due to my brother-in-law who had one back in 1969 when they were incredibly rare.

Contrary to popular belief, I do actually ride my Monster and don’t trailer it everywhere! However, I don’t enjoy riding in wet or really cold weather and avoid it as much as possible. Perhaps the best thing about owning a Monster however, is that I have met so many lovely, helpful people through UKMOC.

Nice one BRD, I was surprised how loud those cored cans were.

"They're standard original cans officer, look, they are E marked and have Ducati & the part number stamped on them. It's the clutch making the noise"

Great look! I particularly like the under engine fairing, hadn't really considered one until I saw it on your ride!
