Your recommendations please!

I need to replace the front discs on my S2R 800 - what are the options besides the rather expensive OEM Brembo parts?

Does anyone have experience of the "Braking" brand discs and pads - it looks to have had quite a lot of time and effort spent on developing their products.

Thanks, Martin

I'm very pleased indeed with the Arashi wavy discs that came from China via eBay. They were roughly half the price of anything else available at the time.

I have three of them on my bike after all three Brembos warped.

I get very good results from EBC organic pads. Vast power with excellent feel and progression.

You're right, Bob, if you buy the OE Brembo rotors from a Ducati dealer they are eye-wateringly expensive. But, if you go direct to a Brembo dealer, you can get better quality Serie Oro discs for less than the OE ones.

In your case, the OE Ducati price would be about £175 per disc but from, say, Carpimoto (http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=57839) it would be around £140

https://www.carpimoto.com/EN/41281_7...r-78B40850.htm

Last year I replaced my Evo discs (OE price £480) with a pair of Serie Oro rotors for £285 delivered from Simon at WSC Performance, who matched the Carpimoto price.

http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=56141

Drop Simon an email to see what his price for a pair of 78B40850 rotors would be.

What is wrong with your discs?

Plus: if you want to upgrade (to "996" / S4R brakes), now might be a good time to start ...

They are worn down to the minimum permissible thickness - an advisory on the last MOT.

Not bad getting there without warping or otherwise making them useless

If you're not going to upgrade the whole package .... maybe a set of sinter pads "sinter street" or similar description. That's usually an aha-moment.

26,000 miles - fitted with TRW MCB648SI sintered pads.

However having just looked again at the advisory notes on the current MOT I must have imagined the reference to the discs!

What it does say is that both the front and rear pads are close to the minimum limit and that
the front wheel bearings have slight free play.

So I need to measure the disc thickness and check them against the dimension stamped on the rotor - given that they aren't warped, at what point would they need to be replaced?

I think the minimum thickness is 4.5mm? It should be etched on the disc or carrier somewhere.
Use organic pads for better brakes and better disc condition.
If changing to organic pads use them all round, front and rear.

I have braking wavy discs on my S2R800, 320mm ones with Brembo Goldline callipers and the original OE master cylinder the braking performance is excellent and would recommend them.

If you can find the right bits at the right price i would say that it would be a good opportunity to upgrade to Brembo Goldlines set up. 4 pot calipers and 320mm discs will be so much better.

Measured my evo discs last night by coincidence. 4mm is legal thickness and both mine are 4.5mm after 17.5k…as a guide. Best check for your specific model tho.
