Looks like they shoved a Ducati motor in an old Yamaha FZ6 frame.

Good spot, Chris. I found the original Motorrad story at the weekend and was in the process of translating it when you beat me to it!

Lots of Updates for the Monster

Ducati Monster (2021) Spyshot Caught

Our spyshot hunter unexpectedly caught a Ducati in his net. It is unmistakably the successor to the Ducati Monster. The shock: Instead of a steel trellis frame, the Bolognese are now using aluminium.

When it first appeared in 1992, the Ducati Monster was a ground breaking motorcycle. The Ducati developers linked the chassis of a supersport, the Ducati 888, with the look of a classic street motorcycle. The Italians used the well-behaved 900 V2 of the super sports models as the motor. Air-cooled, a good 70 horsepower and relatively durable. For many years, the Monster shaped the Ducati model range and was a guarantee of good sales. The Monster family grew across all possible displacement classes, from the 400 to the mighty 1200 with water-cooled 150 HP Desmo power, everything was on offer.

New Engine With 950 cm³

The range has come under increasing pressure. From below from the Ducati Scrambler, which surely skimmed off a share of those interested in Monsters, as well as from above, since the Streetfighter and especially the Streetfighter V4 offer highly attractive and very sporty naked bikes. Not to mention the keen competition from BMW to KTM and Triumph. So it is high time for Bologna to renovate the Monsters thoroughly. And, as our unfortunately blurry photo reveals, Ducati, like its Panigale superbikes, will use aluminium as the frame material. Paradigm shift also in the application of the material: Instead of a trellis frame, cast components connect the chassis and engine.

Not very sharp because it is quite far away: the Monster prototype during test rides.

The front structure, which houses the steering head, appears to be bolted together in two parts. The rear frame also appears to be a cast construction. We cannot tell whether the two halves are bolted together here as well. The once dominant exhaust with its baroque (! ) headers gives way to a lighter, more integrated version. Cheekily, the two short exhaust stubs stretch up, the main work in terms of silencing is carried out by a front silencer under the gearbox. The Ducati probably uses the water-cooled midsize engine, which probably now comes with 950 cm³ instead of 821 cm³. Just as it is used in the Multistrada 950. A fine engine, but it will probably not remain the only option.

Conclusion

Gone are the days of the trellis frame. The header pipes will also be hidden in the future. The engine of the 950-V2 should come into play. It us obvious that the new Ducati Monster can look forward to a lot of updates.

Oh dear.
If that is the new Monster then I think that Ducati have successfully killed the Monster.
They have a 937cc engine in a trellis frame for the Hypermotard, Multistrada and Supersport. Why not the next Monster?

For the non-Italian speakers, here's a translation:

Quote:
Ducati Monster 2021 - here is the first photo!

We have a photo of the new Monster and yes, it's all confirmed: from next year the Borgo Panigale naked will sport an unprecedented aluminum monocoque frame like the latest Panigale and Streetfighter models.

The first "true" image of the new Ducati Monster comes from the German magazine Das Motorrad. We had already talked about it last week on the occasion of another image related to clearly a Monster disguised for testing. And today the German magazine seems to have confirmed our hypotheses on what will be the beginning of a new era.

Goodbye trellis
Never before has the adjective "new" been more appropriate, given that Ducati has gone beyond a cosmetic update: the Monster of the future will have a monocoque frame, conceptually similar to that adopted by the V4 family. A solution derived from the experience gained in MotoGP and in recent years refined and adapted to street bikes (the first was the Panigale 1199, here in comparison with the BMW S 1000 RR).

So, farewell to the historic steel tube trellis, a characteristic element of the Borgo Panigale naked since the first model of 1993, the one designed by Miguel Galluzzi who gave birth to the segment of the modern high-performance naked.

Which engine is to be fitted is still unclear: instinctively and thinking about the design of the chassis, one would think of the 955 Superquadro twin cylinder adopted from the Panigale 955, looking at the layout, shapes and dimensions of the crankcases placed on the engine, probably the twin is the same as fitted to the Hypermotard and Multistrada 950 S.

As for what you can "see", aesthetically the new Monster does not get a real shake-up so much as a touch-up to the lines, with a more sculpted tank and, above all, an increasingly "mini" tail and similar to that of a supersports, to underline once again the sporty character of the new Monster.

I just had another look at the Italian website that Chris linked to and noticed that the text has changed slightly since yesterday. Rather than claiming this is the definitive image of next year's Monster, they're now saying it is merely an artist's impression drawn up by Das Motorrad magazine.

Here are the revised paragraphs:

Quote:
Ducati Monster 2021, will it be like this?

Here's what the new Monster could look like, if all is confirmed: from next year the Borgo Panigale naked will sport an unprecedented aluminium monocoque frame like the latest Panigale and Streetfighter models

Coming from the German magazine Das Motorrad here is a nice drawing of what the new Ducati Monster could be. We had already talked about it last week on the occasion of another image related to clearly a Monster surprised during some tests. And today the German magazine seems to have confirmed our hypotheses on what will be the beginning of a new era.
