Change of mind

I was supposed to pick my S4rs Black & Grey up Saturday morning, phone call from the seller Friday night saying the bike was no longer available even though i had left a deposit, so instead of crying in to my sanatogen, it was onto the tinternet followed by a long drive into the Confederacy (Clevedon Southern England) Saturday to pick this beauty up.

That does look nice that one, not as tricked up as the black one though. Did you get your deposit back? That wasn't very good customer service from them, well sh1t in fact.

Darren, they are a car dealer in Brighton "Strafford", 4 hours from me. The bloke said it had been dropped during a shakedown ride before the sale. They refunded my deposit and covered the insurance cancellation, if i were sceptical i would say that they had a better offer and gave me some ****, but hey ho i think i've got a better bike

Congratulations. You certainly seem to have a good nose for sniffing out a nice S4RS! And incredibly low mileage too.

I'm glad you didn't lose out with the cancellation of the first one but you did say the dealer had a bit of a "Mitchell Brothers" vibe so perhaps your instincts were correct!

If you have, in fact, been "gazumped" and the first bike has been sold, then maybe the new owner will join the forum and we'll learn the truth!

Enjoy!

Yea, it does sound a bit of a tall tale that. I would have said ok, well let me come and see the damage and make you a new offer for it. I've had similar experiences with small car garages selling bikes myself too, but then again I've been lied to by authorised Ducati importer/dealers too. I won't name names but none of them are still in business now so it tells in the end.

If someone did make them a better offer then it couldn't have been that much more as that was pretty much top (overinflated dealer) price for it anyway. I suppose the issue was it was very visible on here so if anyone did want to gazump to it would have been easy. I'd be half tempted to get someone to ring them next week and enquire about it, if it was actually 'sold'?

Glad you got one in the end. What you have is very nice, bone stock very low mileage RS which would appear to be a guaranteed investment bike, that is gonna be better than money in the bank. Enjoy and put some miles on it!

PS are there any bits from your S4, (e.g. Rizoma footrests), you'd like to swap over to the S4RS?

PPS can't believe the warning stickers are still on the seat cowl!

I don't think the rearsets will swap over easily because the S4r frame the rearsets fix to the swinging arm spindle which they don't on the S4. Also the engine covers may look similar but the Testastretta is a different generation to the DesmoQuattro and in any case I think they changed the water pump so it would not be an easy swap in any case. It might be possible to swap the clutch case cover but why bother? I wouldn't want to make an S4RS bitsa, it would be best IMHO to leave it as it is or just fit genuine DP parts to it (if you can find any?).

A completely stock S4RS is a bike that might actually increase in value if you don’t mess with it. I’d want to lose the lowered footrests (think I’d start grinding those pretty quickly) and find some stock ones too.

Yea, my sentiments exactly Rob and well spotted. Nasty Chinese things but probably practical from an orthopaedic standpoint. If you can find some proper DP rearsets like those that were on the black one then that would be a winner chicken dinner. Forza moto might have some tasty S4RS DP stuff in but probably very tasty prices too though unfortunately.

i am keeping the S4 as it is a high spec bike and looks great, as i am happy with the S4rs except for the dustbin lid and the cans.
