What's it worth?

Thinking of selling my fully restored 1995 M900. Had a total nut and bolt rebuild inc full engine rebuild by Ducati racing specialist Steve Jordan MC. Cost a fortune but thinking of doing another and selling this one. I enjoyed the restoration process. Would appreciate member views of a realistic value i could acheive if this bike came up for sale. I have a box of receipts for parts and the work i farmed out. In summary;
- Full engine rebuild inc new valves, guides and mild head tune. Many new engine parts inc all seals and bearings.
- Fork stanchion rechrome and full fork rebuild with new seals and bushes
- Ohlins rear shock
- new wheel bearings, cush drive rubbers and tyres
- Carbs ultrasonic cleaned and fully rebuilt with LiteTek Fluorosilicone & FKM seals and parts
- Paint by KAS racepaint

That's lovely! You've very clearly got much more invested in the bike than what you could sensibly ask for it. Just my opinnon btw.

Bike looks stunning but unfortunately I'm with Darren, all the work wont add too much to the price as it needs wheel bearings, shocks, tyres etc just to make it go. Good luck though, you've obviously worked hard to get it to that standard.

You've done a lovely job, well done, but unfortunately I think it's worth less with the non-standard paint, which isn't to everybody's taste, and will need an expensive re-paint by somebody looking to take it back to standard.

Prices for these early Monsters hasn't really appreciated as predicted like some other Ducati models.(or as deserved really, as they are a classic bike for sure), The 748/916 and now 996 prices have gone through the roof, same as 851/888 did and it would appear the S4RS is going the same way. For the rest of us, it's a waiting game. Not that I am looking to sell mine, but like you I have thousands of pounds invested in it and although it's lovely thing to ride and look at, at current market value I would struggle to get my investment back.

If nothing else but to prompt others to disagree and give you some idea of an answer to your original question.

I was thinking the same but maybe more optimistically 3.5 to 4K but I think that's offensive really considering the amount of £££'s obviously gone into the bike. It's gotta be worth 5 or 6K in real terms what it cost to get it to that standard. If you ask 4.5 someone will offer 4 and if you put it up at 4 then someone will offer 3.5K! You can't win. I would hang onto it and if you want to do another resto do a bog standard one or something like a Club Italia replica. I don't think I've ever even seen one of those.

Yep, I'd have gone to £4K, but with standard paint.

I also understand that that's far less than has been spent on it, which is why I'd be wrapping it up for a few years.

thanks guys for your helpful comments. I understand your point regarding the value and I'm aware it's always challenging getting anywhere near what's been invested in a restoration. Maybe I'll keep it as it's a joy to ride.

You've invested far too much time and effort into transforming that into something that is a joy to look at than to let someone else get the benefit, Adam, unless you need the space in which case I would sacrifice the spare room in my garage and take care of it for you FOC. You'd be more than welcome to come and look at it anytime you were passing.

Now you're talking! Creating a bike that looks how you want it to is alot of work, great fun, and something we should all only do if we plan to keep it for a longtime or don't mind taking a huge loss... I expect (non rare) bike prices to fall due to unemployment post pandemic.

After doing a similar makeover/ revamp of my M900ie,



I wanted to repeat the experience and took a rusty old piece of sh*te bluesmoke trail bike - I love riding it! The restore was done mostly by me as its so much easier to mess about with simpler mechanicals -especially since they are worth much less. Banging it about in the dirt doesn't matter either, there's nothing really to break!



So now I have two bikes I won't part with. LOL!
