Thinking more about it...for me it just doesn't look right without a single sided swing arm and the frame looks a bit cumbersome somehow, just my opinion of course. |

More clues about the next Monster. No details of the source of the sketches but it does seem as though the trellis frame will be dropped for the next generation.

Slightly ironic that the trademark monster trellis frame is being dumped at the very same time when BMW and Kawasaki are using it!!

I don't mind it actually. I'm not opposed to change. After all, if things didn't change then loads of people would still be riding around on Bonnevilles! Oh, wait...
I don't even mind the conventional frame and swing arm. Will I chop the Evo in for one? Probably not, but never say never. |

This rendering is significantly better than the previous 'spy shots' but I'm yet to be convinced.
I can't think of a time when a concept rendering has looked as good in real life - once the design by committee brigade have had their twopenneth. The trellis frame is just too iconic to be dropped (for my money). As someone who will finally be dropping cash on a Monster in the near future I suspect my on-going hunt for a grey 1200s isn't going to be cut short for one of these. |

It’s a pity they have to put so much plastic shrouding on the engines now. There could be almost anything in there now instead of an L twin.

...as long as you don’t mind it weighing an extra 75kg and taking half a day to ‘fill up’

Ha ha! "Resistance" is a problem with electricity.
75kg, all day?? Do all presidents exaggerate untruths?

There you go. 47 kg heavier than a 1200 Monster, charges in 30 minutes, Red, Italian and it's got a trellis frame. Oh, and does 150mph.. https://www.englishelectricmotorco.com/energica-eva-2/

I see what you did there.. Fake news eh?

I just did some sums and it's big numbers. I reckon £23k would get me about 21000 miles on my Monster, not counting the initial purchase of the bike or maintenance items like clutch parts, spark plugs, chains and sprockets and so forth. Nor about £40 quids worth of oil every year which has to be disposed of. With an electric bike you're basically putting tyres on it and insuring it. I'm not very good at maths so I don't know how good those figures are but I reckon you'd be ahead of the game with an electric bike after 4 or 5 years? It would be interesting to compare the cost per mile of electric versus a Monster, but the real advantages are a beautiful riding experience, seamless power delivery, no noise pollution and no air pollution (if renewable energy is used.) I really want one and I think Ducati are dragging their feet by not developing one and just wasting time and resource by bringing out yet another petrol engined bike which is nothing special at all, just a different shape.
