Yes, I know its up there as part of the VIN, as well but the ZDM900M silver vinyl label isnt the VIN, Isnt it whats called a homologation label.......or is that the E3 label

I think you're right - the smaller ZDM label is known as an EC nameplate and is possibly linked to the Certificate of Conformity. I don't know what the larger E3 label indicates but it may be something to do in with emissions (E3/Euro3, E4/Euro4 etc.,)

Thinking about the E3 label a bit more, it's probably nothing to do with "Euro 3", as that didn't apply to bikes until 2006, so you wouldn't expect to find reference to it on the early Monsters and certainly not on a label with the Ducati spelled out in the original Cagiva font.

A quick Google suggests that the E3 label is an "E-mark". The E-mark is a United Nations mark for approved vehicles and vehicle components sold into the EU. The E-number indicates the country of origin (E1 is Germany, E2 is France, E3 is Italy and so on...).

Can't help with positioning, I'm afraid.

I'm not sure if this helps or just muddies the waters but here's a 1995 M900 frame currently for sale on eBay and it has a rivetted E-mark label.

Note that this is a US model, so label position/requirement may be different from Euro models (I know US models don't carry the smaller ZDM label, for example).
