S2r 800
How easy/difucult is it to turn a 800 into a 1000?
there seams to be quite a few cheap 800's but not many 1000's (except expensive ones) |

Better brakes, better fork, 900/1000DS/1100evo engine. Relatively easy, but maybe more expensive than going straight to an S4R/S4RS.

Upgrading the running gear is straightforward and easy, upgrading an engine will be trickier and probably more expensive than just buying a 1000 in the first place.

ok so a 1000 multistrada engine wouldn't just go straight in?, or near enough as I would have to do some mods to the frame anyway?

Multistoodle engine will go straight in the frame, as will most Ducati engines as it's only two big bolts.
The trouble is that the swingarm mounts on the rear of the engine are not always compatible with a Monster one and a stroodle arm probably won't match the Monster suspension mounts. A nice M1000 or S2R1000 will come up for sale long before you have butchered a couple of bikes together.

Btw, the 800 is a brilliant road engine, so it's a bit revvier than the 1000 but it also has the aptc clutch which the bigger motor doesn't.
While I like the ds1000 motor in my sc I've never felt anything 'missing' about the s2r800 on the road

What Dave said. The 1000DS motor probably isn't going to give you enough real world benefit over the 800 to offset the cost of converting one. If you want more power and torque just get an S4/S4R, they have more than any sane person would ever need.

That's not to say you shouldn't do one just for the hell of it!

Monster/SS have bearings in the engine case, Multistrada/Hypermotard have bearings in the swingarm resulting in some interesting engineering solutions...

Ok some interesting info, basically I want to build a sport classic replica with a single sided swingarm, I like s2r, s4r arm and was trying to avoid water cooled, so sounds like either settle for Less power, get the 800, modify the frame, change the forks etc and I get the arm
Use a multistrada, keep the multi arm, change the forks, modify the frame etc Get an 1100, modify the frame etc or best bet will be to Find a decent reletiverly cheap s2r1000, modify the frame |

Also would a s2r arm fit into a 1100 monster, I know the top mount wouldn't be in the right place, are as far as I am aware the hubs are interchangeable, so 1100 hub, brake and wheels would fit?
