Supermoto sound.......

Can somebody tell me why it is that KTM Supemotos and the like sound so different to say our Monsters, they have a loud thwap thwap thwap sound, really loud and aggressive and almost like a chopper - is it the design of the engine or just the exhaust?

Thanks

Most super motos are big single cylinder engines not v twins its that that gives them that unique sound.

Thanks.

Most days on my walk from the tube to work a KTM goes past, has a pair of Akravopics on and it sounds fantastic, very very loud and grunty, doesn’t sound like a sports bike at all.

I just wondered how it is that they sound like this and is it easily replicated on the Monsters??

Take out one of your spark plugs for that supermoto sound but you can expect a serious performance hit.

Why would you want to?

Can't beat a big v twin, my 1000 sounds much better than a single...

Do you have aftermarket cans?

I think it's fair to say that not many bikes sound better than a Monster with proper exhausts, even the smaller capacity ones.

My 695 on full song is almost like an orchestra - I love it!

Yes, I have a pair of ‘For Race Use’ Termis that I have shortened by 10cm, don’t get me wrong, I think they sound great.

I just love that Supermoto sound and wondered why they sound like that and if it was a case of a special manifold or silencer packing or similar would have had a mess around with mine.

Coincidentally walked past a KTM this morning and had a quick look – it only had the one cylinder.
