2006 S4R Coils

Hi all is it possible to get new coils? And from where? Bike cuts out when warm at slow speeds.
All the info I’ve found leads me to believe it’s the coils, I’d rather buy new than used.

There was a thread about this very subject some time back

http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=42128

They are still available but you'll probably need deep pockets and long arms if you're buying new! Give Craig and Luke a ring at Moto Rapido 01962 873981 and you'll get 10% for being a UKMOC member.

I just read the second thread http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=37946 that was linked to in the first one and it seems CBR600 coils will work for a fraction of the price.

You'd be unlucky if both coils have failed together at the same time. The ones from Ducati are about 150 quid each! Honda and Suzuki use the same but cheaper.

Pulled the Coil from the horizontal cylinder and it’s split, called Ducati Nottingham and it’s £189! Will definitely be looking at the alternatives.

Gone up since I last bought one a few years ago then! CBR or GSXR 600's I've been told use the same ones, not sure which years. It's a Nippon Denso part so should be easy to find some.

you look on the Stein Dinse site, they have an alternative (38040031A-Z) for €79.50 instead of €197.87 (38040031A).

See what Moto Rapido quote for it and don't forget to ask for your discount.

Alternatively, there are pattern coils here for £57.50

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ignition-...-/112136664745

But there's no indication of their provenance - if they're Chinese, then there are similar alternatives out there for a lot less again. (But would you trust them?)

What kind of plug does the coil have, looks similar to my MZ coil and I get them for £20-30.

What does it matter? They're all probably made in China anyway!

Was that for 38040031A or the alternative 38040031A-Z. Moto Rapido's prices are usually close to Stein Dinse's so I'd have expected them to be around £65 for 38040031A-Z including discount.

Couldn’t tell you, I just asked for a coil stick for a 2006 S4R.

I spoke to Luke earlier and asked about this 'alternative' part no. 38040031A-Z and he said that's not actually a Ducati part no. His best guess was that it was just the number Stein Dinse had given it and it's most likely to be the Denso equivalent (as suggested by the 12900-4201 alternative number on the Stein Dinse page).

Do the S4 and S4R use the same plug?

A quick check of the parts books for each model shows they share the same coil (38040031A) up to and including 2006. (The 2007 S4R is different.)

Put this address in your favourites as it's a quick and easy reference for parts books back to 2000 https://www.ducatiomaha.com/pages/ducati-oem-parts
