KTM 690 Duke
Evening,
Mrs Ped is currently running about on a 390 KTM Duke, nice a light etc. While she gets back into riding a bike after a layoff. That being said, she is kinda looking for something with a little more go but not much extra weight, we still have her Monster 600 but she finds that top heavy, whereas the KTM is about 50kg lighter Anybody had a 690 Duke (2012 onwards) and if so, any thoughts? Ta, Ped

Lol I am looking for commuter and 690 is on list.
2012 onwards seem best buy as service intervals is good and not much goes wrong with them. However 690 smc R is even lighter (2012 onnwards as 2009-2011 service is every 3k miles while 2008 and back 1500 miles) same Husqvarna and those you can get in smc version or those funky looking cafe racers. There is also Suzuki Dr-z 400 service is every 1500 miles but its mainly oil. Light as hell. Lightest I found so far road going is Husqvarna supermoto but a 400cc version it is 102 kg on road...

While everything I've ever read about the 690 suggests that it's a real hoot to ride (almost as much so as a Monster!), I've also read of a number of rocker arm bearing failures.
There's an example here and you might want to do a bit of research yourself before making a decision. https://adventurebikerider.com/forum...p?f=22&t=43171 |

I heard that the 790 was so good that hardly anyone bought 690s anymore? They might have even stopped making them (or I might be talking total bolex).

You are semi correct.
Current lineup is 1290R and 1290 adventure 890 Duke R (replacing 690 Duke R). 790 Duke (replacing 690 Duke). Then you have 390 and 125. I think best light weight now they have is SMC as it ways next to nothing and its single is making 74 BHP

I bet the 890 r ( aka ‘ the evil twin’ )will be a big seller.
Can i have one in black please, cos the day glow orange burns my eyes! I think although fun, the 690 single would get a bit tiring for me. Chugging and vibes etc. |

My dad has had a 790 Duke for about a year and loves it . I've ridden it a couple of times and it feels reallly light and slim . He sold his monster 821 for it, ops..

Nellys 797 would be ideal - loose a bit of weight with some nice after market parts and bobs your uncle
Being 'a lady' I think how a bike is balanced and a short wheelbase are a big factor to. To be honest if I have to pick a bike up or manoeuvre 20 kg wont make much difference My MV is about 160 kg with after market exhaust Go get some test rides in

Fair point though about trying different options!
