600/750 swinging arms?
Can anyone confirm that M600 and 750 swinging arms are interchangeable?
I am looking at fitting an early M600 swinging arm to a 750ie engine and have made the assumption that all the original series Monster and SS engines are the same width at the swinging arm bearings. I know 900 and 750 engines are the same in this respect but not sure about the 600s. Then there was the early Pantah style cases with the plectrum shaped clutch cover.. Same width again? Thanks in advance...

Turns out that the potential donor (M600) swinging arm is 1999/2000 and 750SSie engine is 2000. So hopefully a simpler question as crankcases will be very similar, just a capacity difference.

My guess is that a 37010191A on a ‘94 M600 is very similar to a 37010191B on a ‘98 M600, a 37010191A on a’98 M600 Dark, or a 37010191B on a ‘00 M750, apart from being silver or black.

That's very helpful actually Darkness, thank you.
The numbers seem to indicate similarity of the parts, I believe the A and B suffixes are for alloy and steel, but you could be right about the colour only. I am still assuming that the SS and Monster cases are the same at the swingarm bearings, but I'm prepared to chance my arm on it... (See what I did there?.. )

Blimey Jeff! You're a star. I was about to bid on an ebay one.
I remember that you converted to alloy, but it never occurred to me that your steel one would be spare. Yes I would be very interested. Does it still have the 17mm axle blocks?

Yes, its complete with axle blocks and a spindle.
pm sent. .... wheel spindle, that is. I do have a swingarm spindle for it too but its marked and I chose to replace it when I fitted the ally arm. It might do for a mock up though. Last edited by utopia; 28-11-2019 at 10:06 PM.. |

That is brilliant Jeff.. Thank you. I should be able to make it work with those parts.
I was only really tossing ideas around in my head and now I have the parts to do the job after only a handful of posts.. What a wonderful forum with some fantastic members.. Richard it's a bog standard 750SSie which I am re-imagining. That's quite an appropriate way of describing it, as I have been simply imagining it for ages and then I had some epiphanies, the right bike came along and so I bought it. I can now actually measure and try parts on it to see if ideas work.. Happily quite a lot of them do and I think the project will work. I can't really start it proper until the Commando is done, but I still can't help thinking about it and trying out ideas. Sorry to be mysterious, all will be revealed when the project takes off..

I'm fairly certain that I have a (swingarm) spindle for said M600 swingarm. I'll have a look tomorrow and confirm, if I have and you want it then you're more than welcome to it.

Just thought I'd mention that one of my plans for this weekend is to put an advert on here for a M900 alloy swinger that I'm looking to sell.
It's not perfect, but I'm looking for £150. Nasher.

BTW the 600 (steel swinger) spindle is 10mm shorter than the 900 version and doesn't have the circlip grooves in the end which, I think is why it is shorter? Shorter spindle fits in a 900 swingarm, being flush to the end whereas the longer version allows for a more 'belt 'n braces' approach to holding it in place - however, I have to say that if you're relying on the circlips holding it in place you have a problem! So, shout up if you want the spindle.
