No Nitron shock for S2R

I emailed Nitron about a shock for my S2R and they replied saying that they don't do one. I could have sworn people on here had them??

It will be the same as S4R and probably others too. I often swear at people on here too!

They list s4r (same chassis)
and I’m *fairly* sure M620/800/1000 are the same fitment (the Ohlins fitment list agrees)
The spring might want adjustment for your/machine weight.

I ran an Öhlins S4R shock on my S2R 1000 with no problems (it wasn't listed for the S2R but Öhlins confirmed it would fit when I emailed them). As Rob observed, it was oversprung for the S2R and would have benefitted from a lower spring rate, but I never got around to changing it.

Looks like these are the bikes that match the stock part number so I guess any of these should be fine?

As the S4R is only about 8Kg heavier the rider weight is likely to be as significant (If not more so), so if spending the money it would be best to get the spring rate right too.

When I asked about one for my S2r800 they quoted (it was a few years ago so the prices may have changed)...

DUCATI Monster 620/750/900/1000/S2R (02-06)

NTR R1 M-14/40-GS-D1 NTBKD 05S £345.00
NTR R1 + HPA M-14/40-GS-D1-HP1 NTBKD 05SH POA
NTR R2 M-14/40-H-GS-D2 NTBKD 05T £482.00
NTR R2 + HPA M-14/40-H-GS-D2-HP1 NTBKD 05TH POA
NTR R3 M-14/40-H-GS-D3 NTBKD 05R £548.00
NTR R3 + HPA M-14/40-H-GS-D3-HP1 NTBKD 05RH POA

I bought a ST4s Ohlins and stuck that on instead although I may be tempted to swap it as I've never been happy with the position of the remote reservoirs...

yeah I'm surprised to hear that they could actually tell the difference tbh, I mean rider weight can be variable +/- 10kg anyway. I would think that the S2R and S4R would be roughly the same anyway. I think the main issue with interchangability will be the position of the remote piggy back reservoir. I thought that the SxR bikes couldn't use the ie/S4 st frame bike shocks because of clearance issues with the piggy back reservoir. I might be wrong of course.

I told them about part numbers working across the other models, they said I could buy one of them but wouldn't accept a return if it didn't fit or perform.

whatever spring they'd supply for a rider of your weight with an M800ie should be right

I got a Nitron R1 shock for the 650 Raptor this week, and opted for the titanium-coloured spring rather than their signature Cambridge Blue. What a superb bit of kit; too classy to hide away under the back of the bike! Let's hope it works as well as it looks. OK, £462 isn't the most you can spend on a shock but it's certainly enough for me!

Unfortunately I went through a similar problem when I bought my used Nitron from a member here. Nitron UK sales staff said it wouldn't fit. That the length was different one. That the valving would be wrong. That the fitting would be wrong etc etc.

I then checked with several Ducati parts suppliers who all said my bikes original shock was the same one/ same parts number as on various other Ducati bikes for which Nitron made a shock. I checked with Ohlins who supplied the identical same shock for my bike as several others which Nitron sales staff said required a different item. I repeated the same thing with Bi Tubo, Wilbers, Hagon etc. Each time the shock for my bike and several other Ducatis were identical and totally interchangable between those bikes.

In the end I rang Nitron and simply asked them to put me through to someone in the technical department without explaining why. A super friendly girl said sure and put me through. The guy who was head of the tech department took less than a minute to confirm that the shock I had did indeed fit my bike...
  1. So find out the Showa/ Ducati part number.
  2. Find out which other Ducatis use the same shock
  3. Ask Nitron to sell you one of those.

The moral of the story is Nitron make great shocks. The prices are very good. The sales people are really nice. The information that the sales people access is poor/ incorrect.

I think from memory that my Nitron shock is a NTBKD05 & an S2800 uses the same one. But don't take my word for it.

The only other thing I would add is that Nitron could have stopped making shocks for these older models, but I doubt it.

Good luck!
