The white plastic bit is the plug on the end of the wire, it should come out with the wire.

Unplug it if possible.

Had this happen a couple of times on mine over the past month. Done as crust suggested (great post!), the switch was a little loose so got cleaned and tightened. Hopefully that will be the last of it
