Yes agreed, but as you note, on the earlier bikes (or maybe I was just unlucky?) they do seem to be a little marginal on section coupled with (cheap) Brass crimped terminals which I swapped for soldered tinned copper terminals all covered with water-proof glued heatshrink sleeving. In addition, the originals had obviously suffered the ravages of time which didn’t help.

As many have said here in the past, as our bikes get older electrical gremlins are probably the biggest spoiler of fun and so a little preventative maintenance pulling the connectors, cleaning and refitting with a little silicone grease (or similar) will go a long way to keeping things smiley. Plus you’re more likely to spot anything untoward before it lets you down.
