Thanks Chris, I'll take a look.

This is disappointing though, as it seems like the idea that I can improve the ride using the standard kit is a lost cause! Admittedly, I'm a big lad and not a club racer - just an average guy on a bike, but I do think it's important that I learn what the stock system is doing, what adjustments I'm making and what effect they are having in order that I can kind of verbalise those things in conversation with a suspension specialist (K-Tech or otherwise) if that time comes.

I went to K-tech following Chris' recommendation - excellent service. You only have to see how many TT bikes were running K-tech stickers this year to realise that they certainly know their stuff.

I think the main problem with the Evo's suspension, (apart from the fact that it's built down to a budget), is that it runs progressive springs at both ends, which never seem to suit anybody.

If you're not sure about committing to a full suspension upgrade, you could first try just fitting linear rate springs tailored to your weight. Crawford (Crawsue) has resprung his standard shock with an Öhlins spring and dropped some K-tech springs in his forks. You could send him a PM to get his opinion on the results and costs.

I actually tried the Sachs shock with an Öhlins spring and noticed an improvement, even though the spring was firmer than my ideal http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...t=56541&page=3

I know they're good, both by reputation and I had a ZX-6R with a K-Tech front end.

OK so it's a while since my Rexxer reflash (plus lambda removal) and the problems continue...

The last couple of rides I've been on felt basically the same as before the remap?! This leads me to my first question: Can the ECU 'forget' its map?

For the first few hundred miles whilst it was learning the throttle positions (I'm told) it actually felt a lot better, however once again I feel like I'm back to square one? It's rubbish under 4k rpm and feels a bit surgy, a bit spluttery, the usual.

In my non-technical mind it still feels like fuelling. I've checked the plugs tonight and they look fine.

Any ideas guys? At the moment I feel like selling the thing, because 'character' is all well and good, but the bike just doesn't ride as well as it should and it's wearing very thin!

This sounds like what happened to my brother with his Scimitar.
He has recently converted it to electronic injection from the old (70's) carburettor.
This was not an easy project by any means, but being a tormented genius he has persevered with it and now it's good. (he's actually just a genius, but I torment him..)

When the ECU was "learning" he said that each run did get slightly better for a while and then began to go down hill! This proved very frustrating and after exhaustive investigations, it proved to be a faulty sensor, sorry can't remember which one (possibly TPS?). Once the sensor was replaced by the supplier of the bespoke conversion kit, the "learning" re-commenced and I believe things are now very good.

So maybe a faulty sensor somewhere?

I have to say that Neil is always helpful, much like many people on this site. He's suggested checking the chain for slack, initially. I have checked this recently, but I'll check again.

Other than that I may ride it up to Cornerspeed for some diagnostics...

OK so I thought I'd post a little update for future searches...

Went out for a blast on Saturday as my mate was trying out some KTMs. After one of the stops for photos\chats I was riding along and thought "Hang on, my bike is suddenly behaving itself again!?". The low speed rough running had suddenly improved dramatically, a bit like straight after the Rexxer flash was done.

It's still not 'perfect' i.e. as smooth as an IL4, but I'm not expecting that. Plodding through villages etc. at 30mph on a constant throttle was possible again though. I'd done maybe 40 - 45 miles since leaving home, riding from MK to KTM in Hemel then out into the sticks. No actions from me other than starting the bike and riding away!?

So now I'm thinking maybe I had a blocked injector or something and it suddenly cleared? I really don't know. It's all very, er, Italian!

Amen to that!

I may still change to a 14T sprocket, but first things first it needs a service and ideally some tyres. It came into my posession with a slightly squared rear, and despite my best efforts to even things up it's still a little bit that way, only generally more worn...

Bob I would be tempted to do it if I was you. Not a big job as I said in my 14t post but I’ve been out again today and it’s made the bike loads better and I thought it was great before.

I’m running pr4’s at the moment as hey we’re on and new when I bought he evo. I’m tempted by metzeler m7 next as on the Daytona they were by far the best road tyres I’ve ever had
