Monster 1200R: Stalled climbing kerb - now engine warning light is on

Monster 1200 R:

I was trying to avoid a deep puddle. I put the front wheel against the curb and tried to climb it. Rolled back and stalled it. Got over on second go but engine warning light is on now

Any idea what I’ve done? Got a track day in two days!

Perhaps rolling backwards off the curb confused the tilt sensor (maybe the ECU thought you were doing a reverse wheelie!).

If the error light is illuminated, have you got a corresponding error message on the dash?

That doesn't help you much, does it? Other than to tell you it's one of the 15 engine errors listed in the book. Does the bike still run ok and how far away is your Ducati dealer? If possible, just nip in and get them to read the actual error and cancel the light. Or give them a call, explain what happened and see what they say - perhaps it's something they've come across before.

It seems to run fine. Thanks for the help. I’ll get down to pro twins on Tuesday hopefully and see what they say. Fingers crossed.

When my MZ gets an error or MIL light (usually after an MoT as the tester hasn't mastered my alarm) I just have to run it through three cycles of heat/cold and it clears, not sure if Ducati is the same but it's worth a try especially as the bike is running fine.

Great suggestion and good news! I ran the engine until the temp got to 90c. I then let it cool. Went to do the second cycle of getting it up to temp and the engine warning light had gone! Thanks

My Alfa was like that too. the light would come on if I stalled or had more than one try at cranking it into life. The light went out again after 5 starts, I think it was.

By the way, how deep was the puddle?

Ok I’ll own up. It wasn’t that deep. I didn’t want to get my wheels dirty lol
