Rearsets

Just ordered these, seen a few fitted on American bikes. £85.00 inc shipping doesn't seem bad.

Yep, they are Chinese, 6061 billet. So, based on feedback I've seen I've taken a punt.

Hi
I have always fancied a pair of rear sets for my 1100 but it’s hard to justify the price of the well know brands.
I have a couple of questions:
Break light switch, how is this reconfigured
Rear break slave cylinder mount? Seen some awkward hose routing.
Do you have to mover the rear break master cylinder up and out of the way?

I believe the gear change side is a lot simpler.

Merry Christmas

Graham do you want to loose the oversized OEM foot peg assemblies to improve the looks or is it for a much more sporty riding position.
On my 1100 I've fitted the front pegs from an S2r which really cleans it up and I know of others who have used the front pegs from an 1100evo to do likewise.
With our bikes it means that it becomes a solo ride because neither bikes have the bracket fixings for pillion pegs plus on mine I had to purchase a 30 MM longer rear brake line to make it work.
Hope this is of some help
Geoff.

I thought that pillion footrests were an MOT requirement?
Obviously if there is no pillion seat they're not needed... Can you argue that there is no pillion seat if the cover is on?

I've never heard that one Mr G- there are plenty of bikes that are single seat from the factory and my Monster doesn't have any rear pegs on the rear sets and I've never had a problem come MoT time.

The only thing like that I have heard about for MoT's is that if you want to legally ride a Dual purpose trail bike without indicators then you have to remove the rear footrests in order to legally do so.

I did this on both my DR350 and much newer DRZ400 in order to ride them on the road- never had a problem with Plod or Mot's like that- lucky for me as my indicator bill would have been a fortune the amount I fell off on the muddy green lanes.

They didn't come with a brake light switch, it's hydraulic and I've had to order one from ebay £7.65

As Buzzbomb says the rear hose is tight and will need changing, I was wondering by how much, now I know (thank you) Need to find somewhere to get one from now.

Yes, you have to move the master cyclinder but it's very straight forward, two bolts.

The whole job took about an hour, but I'll be revisiting some of the fasteners as they didn't come with any lock washers.

As for quality, if I'd paid £675 for Sato ones I'd probably have kept them in the box and just looked at them, but these for the price are exceptional, although the rose joints look a bit fragile.

Also, the wonderful Royal Mail wouldn't deliver them as they wanted me to pay an £8.00 "Handling Fee" +VAT of course...

You're spot on, Mr Gazza. I had this discussion with Nick and Chris at Doubletake one year, or rather they pointed out to me that, if I brought the bike in without the pillion pegs, I must remember to fit the seat cover if I wanted it to pass.

It's actually specifically covered in the MOT manual, which says:

"Single seat motorcycles don't need pillion footrests. If there's an optional cowl replacing or covering the pillion seat at the time of test, you should consider it to be a single seat motorcycle."

They seem a bargain at that price, even including VAT and brake light switch. And being silver you won't suffer from faded anodising, which seems to be a common complaint with the black anodised Chinese products. You might want to give them a wipe over with ACF50 or similar to protect them from corrosion.

Yes, somehow think I'll end up anodising these, I'm sure they'll be a nightmare to keep clean and also the alloy looks as though it will stain easily.

These guys do some great work and have been reasonable on price when I've had hard anodising done before. Very easy to deal with too. http://www.moss-metal-finishing.co.uk/

Thank Luddite. I thought that was the case.

Nice rearsets Mo.

I concur with that, I've never had an issue with not having pillion pegs for the MOT
