hi im vince with a s2r 800

hi ,sorry this is all a bit new to me but here I am , I was hoping for some advice I love my Ducati's but always on a bit of a budget ,, iv had 5 monsters to date started with a m750 then a 695 ,then back to a m750 then a m900 metallic ,did 34k on the 900 but then main ends went , gutted , so now on to a s2r 800 ,iv changed belts and serviced it but while out on a ride I noticed a tiny bit of play from bk end, from what I can see from further investigation it seems to be a tiny bit of movement in-between single side swing arm and bottom of the shock maybe only 1mm maybe 1 1/2 mm is this normal or should I be getting it sorted ? ,ok many thanks monster guys hope you can help and im sorry if iv put this in the wrong place thanks again Vince.

Hi Vince, welcome to the forum. I expect an expert will be along in a bit, but in the meantime I got an advisory on this year's MOT for the same thing, (barely) discernible play in between the shock and the swing arm - double-sided arm in my case. I can't feel the effect while riding, so I've flagged it as something to look for this winter. Post up here when you've investigated/fixed it, I will follow with interest

Welcome to the forum Vince, there should be no sideways movement of the swing arm, if there is get it checked and fixed. If it's the shock you may be able to shim it out. You are just down the road from me if you want to run up we can put it up on my workbench and take a closer look at it.

thanks mjgt, there's no movement from side to side at all in swing arm but if I lift bike then arch my arms around the seat and grab the wheel I can just get a bit of movement in between the bottom of shock and swing arm up and down but only about 1 1/2 mm ? but like I say there's no movement in swingarm bushes' side to side or up and down , just don't know if that's normal or not ? thx again mjgt

Just tried the same on mine and I don't seem to have any movement. I don't think that there should be unless one of the bushes, or if it's been dry /grease free then the bolt shaft/bush, is a bit worn.
It shouldn't be a major to job to sort out though.
BTW Welcome and nice bike to have.
