That doesn't look like a Monster headlamp shell to me.
If they are all the same, which I think they were up until the strange plastic ones were introduced on the S#R. It should have a rolled lip for the rim to sit over. (maybe it's out of sight due to camera angle?) Does the headlamp glass have Bosch written on it? I think the finish might be right for a "Dark" model, but I think mostly they had a gloss finish with a subtle silver metalflake in it which I believe is called "Light spark" and is a complete arse to reproduce. Absolutely prepared to be contradicted.

I've changed my mind. I'm sure it's a Monster Bosch one.
Aperture in the chrome rim should be 186mm. Looks like the weather has dulled the paint beyond recognition though, I wouldn't match the dull finish! Powder coating might make the rim tight too.

Ive just finished blasting the shell for taking to the powder coaters, so dont want to be man handling it too much. Yes to Bosch H4 and Yes to the lip all round- classic Bosch fitment, well, same as on the Laverda anyway
194mm lip to lip. Difficult to see in photo but , its not a dull/aged finish. Where its not rusty and on the protected inside it was all the same very finely textured matt- 200 wet and dry is a fairly good description. I dont think the powder coat will be an issue for thickness, we're not talking stove enamel finish thicknesses.

Have you discovered the parts diagrams on the Stein Dinse website:
https://www.stein-dinse.biz/eliste/index.php Choose what bike you want from the drop down menus on the left. Their site covers all the older bikes that the Ducati websites don't. They are a very useful resource Oh and click on the number in the diagram to get the details and image(Zeigen), not the part itself. Nasher.

I had the sidestand assembly off the bike but couldn't see how to dismantle it further either. Whatever has been done to that "nut" looks like it happened some time ago. What would be the benefit of removing the protruding part?

Popular period modifications to allow the stand to stay down were to buy a “C” shaped plate that cleared the protrusion, or grind off the protrusion so the straight plate slides across it.

Yes that's what's been done to my bike -your old 750 Nick. The stand stays down until you kick it up in the conventional manner.

Right , I need to rethink. I dont want the suicide stand, but I would like to be able to undo the fixing .
So Im thinking or even a standard button head with large plain washer
