Tonight I welded the exhaust up (now single exit) so I just need to wrap it. Then I mocked up the tank and seat so I know where to cut the material:

Starting to look really good now, Yorkie.
Keep up the good work. I keep wondering though ...did you consider chopping the rear subframe ? Do you need pillion pegs ? It does look like there's some superfluous frame tubing in that area, though maybe it'll all come together when the seat cowl is fitted ...looking forward to seeing that. It occurs that, if you are considering putting the oil cooler up amongst the front frame tubes, it'll also give a little bit of protection to the carb bellmouths from driving rain etc. Exhausts look great. I'm definitely getting more hooked on the idea of building an ss based naked myself. |

By this stage I had already had the frame powder coated!!!! Bugger! I just love the frame so no choppy choppy for this beast! The oil-cooler will be infront of the carbs, so hopefully it will protect the bell mouths. Yorkie

I love the looks of the ss frame too, particularly the way it wraps itself around the vee motor rather than crossing it like the monster frame does.
Though I reckon you could chop the subframe and still retain the character. Also ......noted, the lack of need for exhaust hangers. That's the trouble with powdercoat ......you can't tweek things afterwards. It wouldn't suit a ducati, but I'm sorely tempted to use old school hammerite paint when I get round to street-tracker..ing the dommie. I once worked with a bloke who owned an old 16h Norton single. That was all hammerite and red oxide paint. It looked a treat, and very, very real. |

I've got a concrete mixer I painted over 30 years ago with Hammerite and it's lasted well but I'm restoring a Triumph Bonnie T140 and brush painted the frame with the new Hammerite and it's disappointing. It doesn't cover properly and it flakes off easily so I wish I had powder coated it now. I've brush painted bike frames before with the original Hammerite and got good results. I spoke at length with Hammerite's Tech Dept and sent them photos but they couldn't explain it apart from saying 'it may have been a bad batch' and offered me a refund. If you Google this you will read similar stories. |

Yes, I agree the spray can is ok - also the No 1 Rust Beater and Special Metals Primer are ok.

Exhaust running on another Ducati, just to test for leaks:
It not tuned and is running rich but it sounds great. Bit of a flame on this one: Its a bit louder than the Monster! Yorkie

Drinking has slowed down my project build, so I have only managed the seat unit:
It was a Challenge one originally. Then I bought an in-line switch and black exhaust wrap: Yorkie

Stopped drinking for one day and managed to start mocking up the seat cover to try and position the rear numberplate and light, it looks a little SRAD:
I may have found a 748 project as well, starting with a frame and an engine, and to be honest not a lot else!! Yorkie
