Don't bother buying another commuter bike, the vehicle in the background looks ideal for Winter.

Yup, ideal vehicle for snow but it would probably take me 4 times as long!

Finally top coat on! Very happy with the result, it's not perfect, but lots better than before. I will let it dry overnight and get it infront of the IR heater tomorrow to cure a little before I'm able to run the engine up. Can't quite make out in the photos but the silver is very metallic, which is quite nice. The covers are not quite as dark as before, which will work a bit better I think. Oil cooler went back to standard silver.
I also re lacquered the carbon cans. It's the second time I've done it this year, but I wasn't happy with the results the first time. I've got more lacquer on this time, so hopefully it will give a better finish. It's looking better than the first time already, hopefully they'll shine up nicely after a flat with 1200. |

Nope, just a normal 750 Monster!
Can anyone name what they are in the background before I give it away? |

In the top photo there is an early metal bin (non-corrugated) with rubber lid and side handles... Nice example..
The military vehicles are clearly in Arctic Camo colours???? A BvR10 Viking perhaps?

I like the rack on top for your picnic stuff. Engine is looking smashing btw Ross. Hope you stuffed something in the spark plug holes?

Correct Dirty. Hagglands BV206, merc diesel engine good for 50kph max, but will go most places and (until recently) fully amphibious.
Yup spark plug holes are plugged, it's now hovering precariously above an IR lamp to help cure before I start fitting bits back together! |

I got my new stainless bolts today which meant I could start putting the engine back together. The bolts I got from here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3710452112...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Best Offer for £24.00, 86 bolts in total for most engine bits and bobs. Initially I was pretty happy, comes with a small guide telling you where the bolts went and what size, but there are a couple that just don't fit. The worst offenders being the long clutch cover bolts, simply too long to thread all the way in, so I had to put a couple of old ones back in. I've got the list of bolts and sizes for each bit, so I'll upload that another time should anyone want to buy their own bolts individually. Anyway, onto the engine. Clutch cover sealed (Loctite 574) and back on, belt tensioners and rollers back on, which allowed me to refit the belts. It took a little more work than normal because nothing was lined up, but as long as you process it logically it doesn't take much longer. I had a blonde moment when tensioning the belts, I'd put the allen key between the belt and the tensioner, rather than the roller, so it wouldn't give the right tension. I knew the belts were too lose but couldn't work out why Belt covers back on, I must say Mr Gazza I'm very happy I painted the covers to match, leaving them black would have been a big mistake. Still need to get the alternator side sealed and back on, but I realised today I'd forgotten to paint the starter motor, so that needs to be done before I can finish off. |

New rose joints fitted today (McGill Motorsport) and exhaust pipe polished up a bit. Starter painted, so that can be fitted tomorrow and the rest of the engine back together. The old rose jonits had already been wound out a few turns I believe, before I got the bike, they measured 32mm from bottom of the hoop to top of the hole in the rose joint. Not sure how that compares, but there was still over 10mm of thread in the hoop.
