At the moment I’m hooked on the Gojira album “Magma”, Architects “All our gods have abandoned us” and Shoot the Girl First “I confess”.

I used to go and see Iron Maiden at the Ruskin Arms pub in Upton Park when they had their original frontman Paul Diano who was a big West Ham fan and used to sing Bubbles on stage great days have fun.

I'm sensing a theme here, i'm in that group too. Anything old school rock and roll, metal, some blues then drifting into late 70's early 80's band like Joy division, New Order, Echo and the bunnymen.
However I've also been trying to keep up with modern stuff a little bit, The Maccabees and so on. Also trying out the return of house music. |

Hawkwind, Jeez, I still have my 7" in a picture sleeve of Silver Machine. Saw them at the Sundown in Edmonton, north London in '74 (?) with Stacia their 'dancer' . Then at a free gig in Harlow park with Osibisa. Some of the best years of my misspent yoof :-) . Sons of Apollo are worth a listen if you like a bit of 'light entertainment' ;-)

Recently I working my way through the 70's Nazareth back catalogue (Loud and Proud re-masters) same for the Led Zep Deluxe editions, Stevie Ray Vaughan Broadcast collection, Allman Brothers Band Classic Broadcasts, Rory Gallagher re-masters, Gary Moore Blues and Beyond set, Johnny Winter box set, Skynyrd deluxe editions, Robin Trower Chrysalis Years Sets/ UFO Chrysalis Years sets, Mick Taylor era Rolling Stones plus a load of others. So I guess I listen to a lot of 70's classic rock and blues music, '80's and '90s too.
I like to keep up with the modern stuff too and if you like the 70's style rock like Zep, Deep Purple, Lemmy era Hawkwind and Black Sabbath, Kiss etc then check out the following bands:- Rival Sons, Black Country Communion, Black Star Riders, Blues Pills, The Vintage Caravan, Kadavar, Graveyard, Imperial State Electric

Killswitch Engage are awesome, one of the pioneers of the metalcore genre, I thought they might not be so good when they lost Howard Jones' vocals but Jesse Leach returned and they went from strength to strength.

Mescalero and La Futura are also back to basic ZZ Top sound. Rick Rubin produced La Futura and its the closest yet to the Tres Hombres/Fandango sounds.

I will have a listen to all this shame they haven’t done a box set of all they have done, El Loco was a real quirky album one of my favourites , hey Rob you weren’t in the band was you with that trademark Beard

Greta Van Fleet - Album, From the Fires. Saw them recently and was gob-smacked by the vocals and sheer playing talent. Some will accuse them of being Led Zep pretenders ... but given Robert Plant is a fan of this new young rock band WTF... That’s a pretty good endorsement!
