Slob's right. I could be one of the interlock switches that are faulty. These are not in ECU CANBUS so will not give warning light but will kill the ignition. Try starting with the clutch pulled.
If bike thinks its in gear or stand is down it will not start. There are interlock switches on side stand, clutch lever and neutral light. Pulling clutch will allow the bike to be started in gear if stand is up and clutch is disengaged for example. But any will stop you starting the bike.

Maybe previous owner disconnected/bypassed sidestand switch and the modification is now failing?

Yea, I was thinking exactly the same thing. They are prone to failure, its fairly common they can fail but also if it did and the DPO tried to bypass it badly it could stop the bike starting.

the two wires going to the sidestand switch need to be shorted to make the bike think the stand’s up
