Todays progress. Just picking off easy wins, things that can come off get abit of TLC and go back on so the bike can be put on the road for a bit of a run before the full strip happens. Making good a damaged front indicator holder, with epoxy resin and fine glass cloth Shot blasting the headlight and reservoir tops and dropping at the powder coaters Plating a few bolts that were really offending me! Unfortuneately my plating bath needed some brightener which I had run out of, so the finish is a little flat, although once passivated they came out a quite pleasing gold anodized look. Prepping the side stand and running it over to Mark with the TIG for him to weld a new foot on.

If I go with a flat headed bolt, then I can carry on with the plate I have.

Nothing much today. Still just tinkering around the margins. The sidestand is off to try and have a proper job of welding a new plate on the bottom, but the expert is away at the moment, so I will probably have to do something temporary to get me going- It might not be pretty. Only other thing I did today was re-assemble the front indicator stems and indicators and do a decent soldered and heat shrunk replacement of the Alternator connectors which were showing signs of overheating due to poor contact in the bullets. Is there a recognised Shindengen regulator/rectifier alternative for these or are the OEM ones thought to be sound?

You de-fused a ticking time bomb there alright..
I use Gold bullets for those. 6mm will carry the amps you need. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_f...let+connectors

Today I picked up my headlamp from powdercoater Flo, I'm really pleased with the satin finely textured finish, exactly what I was aiming for, and no issues with finish build up and Headlamp fit. I also stripped out the rear wheel and suspension yoke to go for a discussion at 360 Alloys who do some very good powdercoating on wheels and I wanted to discuss whether they could do the frame aswell. http://www.threesixtyalloys.co.uk/index.html That M series Beemer wheel on their page is exactly the matt/satin finish I want to aim for on the wheels and frame, but in 916 Gold. They do this with gloss modifiers that allow anything from full gloss to full matt. They achieve their range of colour finishes by applying colour in the powdercoat process with a sprayed coat of paint, but primers, basecoats and modified lacquer coats are all electrostatically applied powder, hence the large range of colours they can achieve. They were very helpful and quite enthusiastic about the project( The owner is A Ducati man, apparently), but I need to find the colour code and I will have to pre-blast the frame as their cabinet wont take it. So Im thinking of going to my local paint supplier, and getting them to mix me a couple of different rattle cans that I can play with for matching and then give that code to 360. I keep saying I am putting this bike on the road but cant help myself doing bits and pieces. I need to stop and do it. This weekend will probably be taken up with the engine install on the XR.

I had a ‘93 frame blast cleaned, primed in powdercoat, then spray painted, because of battery acid damage, plus general weathering. This was the best match that the paint shop could find: matched to the unweathered paint beneath the TA tag. The shade of bronze/gold on Monster frames changed substantially in about ‘96, but neither are the same as 916 frame paint.

Yes, but in black as that’s right for ‘93.
