Thanks Brendan, it certainly looks the same. At that price there is little to lose.

I think the connector is wrong on that one - depending on what is on your bike I think you need one with a Lucar blade

Sorry, I did not look at my S4 before replying, the old M900 is a blade type or rather was as I shall be acquiring one of those as well.

Yea, otherwise I would have swapped the one from my '97 748 but I think that's a blade one. If this one is ok I will buy a few more as spares. I think my original one has stopped working but I'm not sure because when I unplugged it the oil light stayed on.
I could test it with a multimeter if I knew if it is open at rest and closed when running or the other way around. And rather unhelpfully they don't give much info in the workshop manual either. As I don't have a Mathesis or the original manufacturers specification to hand!

I tried the vauxhall route and it failed (oil weeping from the top) within a few weeks. The correct Ducati part was not horrifically expensive, I would stick to OEM personally.

Thanks Alan, I'm gonna risk it for £2.50 instead of £25.00 plus. If anything to find out if my original one is faulty or there is some other electrical issue.
I did unplug everything on that side when I was tidying up the wiring the other day and I gave all the connectors a squirt of electrical cleaner.

I have Vauxhall (or equivalent) in both my bikes, no problems at all and are so cheap on ebay it's worth buying a spare or two.
Just be sure it has the correct thread; M10 x 1.0mm.

Thanks Duke, They look the same thread to me from the pictures. I can't understand the massive price difference, although the Stein Dinse one looks like it might be stainless and the fleabay one zinc plated?
Probably better quality bits inside on the official one but will find out soon enough!

thanks for the reasuurance Brendan, I post something when it turns up. Its probably a case with a lot of parts used on our bikes from the car industry being 10x the price.
This look familiar? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IAW-59F-M...IAAOSwswdeXdCi Same ECU type used on many Ducati is originally for small Fiat cars, but 10x the price!

I’ve used these Vauxhall ones on my M1000 and they haven’t lasted five minutes back to OEM now I’ve had about two go when I’ve been over 100 mile from home a real pain in the arse.
If you do go down the Vauxhall road I advise buying a few as they are pretty cheap. |
