seized swinging arm on S4
when i put it back together in 2007 it was greased up well but now after removing retaining clips and 8mm clamp bolts and making a puller out of 10mm studding and applying masses of heat and penetrating oil and hammer force its not budging at all in fact the studding has snapped ,, going to try 12mm stud next the bearings and play are good but its got to come off for paint and polishing any ideas ??????

put a length of scaffolding pole between the bike and a substantial wall, then hammer it into the pole

Seems not an uncommon problem, I assume it's the shaft and bushes getting repeated hot cold cycles and able to suck in a little moisture?

Its a double sided aluminium Swingarm,, 2 x 8mm clamp bolts and 2 circlips all removed arm is stuck on the hollow steel pin the biggest rod that goes thru is 14mm but even with that the puller has budged it 5mm afte 8 hours of heat and thumping and pulling ,,
It wont move any more im knackered and defeated and plusgas is £9 a small tin here and no brass drifts availabe larger than 8 mm im losing heart

Diesel is only £1.27 a ltr, does a good job as a penetrating oil.

i measured it up with micrometer the shaft is 19.98mm outside so will make the mandrel 19.7mm,, with a extension of 14mm to go in the hollow centre of the shaft as a locator

Penetrating fluids
This may help - I collect and restore old model aircraft engines, some of my older examples were built in the 1930's. I'm often dealing with seized and corroded parts, however on a web site I use there was an experiment to find the best fluid for freeing rusted parts and the absolute best (far better than anything available commercially) was a mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid, 50/50.
I can try and find the link if anybody is interested. Martin |

Do you have it on it's side so the fluid can flow down into it? I'm just wondering if maybe a bearing has broken up and is jamming things up. Sorry I can't be more helpful at this point as I've not ever removed one before. Just thinking out aloud, but maybe I should shut up?
