Hard wiring Tom Tom

I’m looking to hard wire my tom Tom to my S4R, currently thinking the rear light, has anyone done this?

I put a battery charging socket on my M750, which I also use to power my Tom Tom, or my wrap around heated grips or even the pump for my airbed when I go camping.
I used a two-pin superseal connector mounted via a homemade bracket which is bolted to the top yoke, just in front of the bar clamp.
Its wired directly to the battery (its original function was purely for battery charging/tendering), so you do have to remember not to leave stuff switched on when you turn off the ignition, but that's never been a problem in practice.
When the socket isn't in use I plug it with a blanked off version of its mating half, to keep water and grime out. This dangles nearby on a bit of elastic when the socket is in use.
Of course, I then needed to modify the leads for the Tom Tom, the grip heaters and the airbed pump to take superseal connectors.

Yep!!

I wired the cradle for my Garmin Zumo into the rear light to avoid having it permanently live as Garmin suggest while still having it switchable by another means than the ignition key alone.

Which colour wire did you splice in to?

On S4r you want the yellow wire on the connector for +12v

Earth - black
Brake - grey/red
L turn - pink/black
R turn - orange/green

Lighting fuse is 15A, fusebox is on r/h side in front of rear cylinder head and has a legend on the inside of lid. You'll need to lift the tank to get to it.

of course you could locate your swithched +tive at the fusebox but running a wire from rear light is probably less fiddly.

Not sure if your light assembly is the same as on the early bikes which are a very basic 6.3mm faston terminal but I simply took the +ve feed from the tail light wire (not brake light obviously) and the -ve from the ground using auto type 'piggy back' crimps.

I was going to use an 'Add a Circuit' which piggy backs a suitable fused feed (in this case the lighting circuit) but I didn't want to cut into the fuse box (which is under the seat on my 900) lid and as the Garmin loom was already protected by an inline fuse I thought it un-necessary.

Plus this way I have not cut into the original loom or fixed anything permanently by soldering so therefore left the Garmin loom easily removable should I wish.

For those not familiar with 'Add a Circuits' they're a handy little thing to keep in your arsenal- especially for trying things out:

Thanks for the ‘add a circuit’ heads up. Sounds like the perfect way for me to connect my gps.

They're a great idea but assuming you can fit the fuse box lid back on you will have to cut it somehow so the wire can come out.

I haven’t had chance to look at it today but I would consider drilling a hole in it just slightly larger than the cable then seal with silicone.

I decided to connect to the number plate light while I was installing a tail tidy. Seems to be working ok.
