Monster 1200R, how many fork seals a quarter...?!
How many a quarter should I consider to much?
Wtf, 1st ohlins and they are as bad as I was told they are. Is it just my bike or my riding? I use it daily for London commute and fun on weekends.

none in the three months i was riding mine, are you hammering into potholes? (given your extreme front wheel experience)
also, my bike stood for a year from new (ex display bike) which is meant to be quite bad for ohlins seals Last edited by slob; 17-07-2019 at 09:37 PM.. |

Now dont get upset when I say this, but....
If you are fitting the seals yourself, are you 100% sure you aren't nicking them or something when you are fitting them? If you are fitting them yourself, perhaps try a different brand, or get a shop to do the next ones, just incase.

Also do you clean your bike regularly? London’s roads are filthy! and leaving that dirt on your stanchions will drag it through the seals and damage them eventually.

Can you still get double lip seals? I forget what they are called.

All repairs were done by Ducati.
This is my 1st ever bent rim and they had 2 leaks before the rim incident (pot hole mid corner). Slob I clean bike ones a month and wipe the stanchions when they get dirty. Only reason I do that is cause they fail. Never ever ever have I had blown seals on any other forks on any other Ducatis I had. I did not clean any previous bikes. Never have I had Ohlins as well and got them and have issues. Darren you cannot get double lip seals for 1200R

I have to agree about the Ohlins, they are crap. So far I've spent about £600 on mine and whilst they are now 100% better they aren't a patch on the std forks on my 750 that I owned 18 years ago.
Also, during the suspension journey, it was discovered that a Ducati dealer had fitted one odd seal to the left fork (while billing the previous owner for two) and butchering the damper rod with what must have been mole grips. Topped off with the wrong amount of oil, significantly different from the side they hadn't touched. /rant

I would be checking for a bent fork leg. If you've hit something with enough force to bend a rim, check the fork legs too. That's all I know about fork seals. Apart from I've only ever blown fork seals from age or a bent fork leg on my old race bike.

Warranty finished end of April last fork seal (on both legs) was a month before.
10 months before that left was replaced. Even better it looks like it goes basically every 1500 miles for me. Hmmm
