S2R 800 2005, Oil &Filter
Hi all
Is this oil any good for my S2R 800 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-800...item4605596805 or can any one recommend an easily available oil for my wet clutch S2R Alan H |

Oil is a personal choice, some use Shell, Motul, I have always used Rock oil?
Personally i wouldn't use somehting like that but then I have never seen that brand before, not saying it's no good, just my two pence worth |

best go for semi synth from a more trusted brand imho as some fully synth oils can cause clutch slip in wet clutch bikes like yours
this or you could also go for 15/50w if you ride hard like this i hear good things about mogul too but never user personally i have used rock-oil semi synth in my s2r800 for years without issues K&N filters are good if your doing your own fitting as they have the integral nut for tightening (otherwise you need a tool to fit oem ducati filter without marking it) Last edited by Funkatronic; 23-10-2013 at 11:20 AM.. |

I would say that you're probably ok to use that oil.
The JASO MA2 spec (which it has) is the important criteria for a wet clutch bike. But having said that, I stick to the recommended shell advance ultra 4t myself, just to be on the safe side. It can be had for about £28 for 4 litres delivered, off the internet. The K&N oil filter is probably good, not only for the handy nut on the casing but also...... I saw a report some time ago where someone had cut one open and analysed it compared to a Ducati filter. The K&N had a finer grade of filtration medium and a significantly larger area of it too, which (you would imagine) should give better performance. .....though assumptions are always dangerous. .....and oem filter spec may have changed since then. I add one (or preferably three) of those high powered magnets to the filter casing, to suck out even more of the finer ferrous sludge. |
